Tatula's got me confused...
I have to admit, I haven't been keeping up with new gear lately like I use to. Been happily plugging along with my TDZ's but lately have been thinking about getting a new reel for an extra rod laying around. All these Tatula models got me confused! Just wanted to make sure I pick the right one for m...

Re: Dobyns 742c
Probably my favorite rod to fish. 1/4oz is the sweet spot I think but I throw 1/8oz shakey heads for smallies in the winter time with no problems. I even fish crappies with it. Sure wished Dobyns made a 741C.

Re: Champion Extreme 745HP
I love my 745. Jigs and t-rigs from 1/2oz is the sweet spot. Doubles as a frog rod in a pinch. As stated above it won’t be as sensitive as an NRX. I don’t feel like I miss fish because of the sensitivity. It just gets the job done and it does it very well. To me, the warranty played a big factor in ...

Re: Conquest 101 doesn’t cast far anymore
It’s usually 3 on and 3 off/in and out. The reel tech at Thorne Bros. and I doodled around with the brakes and turned them all off and on. Distance did increase a little bit but not by much and it still sounded and felt rough.

Re: Conquest 101 doesn’t cast far anymore
Understandable. I bought another reel then to take its place and didn’t need it right away so I just stashed it. My fault on that.
I’m about 15 minutes away from Thorne Bros in Blaine, MN. I can go talk to them first and see what they think. Then I’ll take it from there. Thank you for your time sir.

Re: Conquest 101 doesn’t cast far anymore
Hmmmm... been awhile. Maybe 4-5 years ago? Should be a record of it. Can you look it up somehow?

Conquest 101 doesn’t cast far anymore
Pressed the clutch lever and made a cast. The clutch lever engaged mid-cast and I heard the ugliest grinding noise. Ever since then, it doesn’t cast far like it use to. I use to fling baits like crazy but now I’m lucky if I get 15 feet. Sent it to Shimano and they replaced the clutch cam, retainer, ...

Re: Favorite drop shot set ups
Depends on what I want to fish that day:
Dobyns HP 741
Tatula LT SS 3000
8lb fluro
Dobyns HP 742C
Pixzilla
8lb fluro
If I’m using a tube, I’ll go with a Gamakatsu ds hook. I’ll use the roboworm hook for worms. And I rarely go heavier than a 1/4 oz weight.

Guess I need another spinning rod
Wasn't planning on it but came across a Tatula LT Sterling Silver and now I need another spinning rod. It will be used mostly for Ned's, nekos and drop shots. I'm a Dobyns fan and have gotten so use to 7'3 and longer rods that anything shorter kind of feels weird to me now. So I have my eyes on the ...

Re: Daiwa TD Zillion HLC
It's a very moody, touchy reel. As stated above, it's ideal for heavier baits. i only use mine now for 1/2 oz lipless crankbaits and heavier. Those baits cast well anyways so you can really zip them out there. Very limited but I still enjoy fishing with mine.

Wish they made a 741 casting rod. Would be nice.
What reel were you thinking? I was looking at the rod also.

Re: Tackle Trap/Pike Road Reel Service
Thank you for your reply Bryan. I appreciate it. The work performed was fine, aside from the marks and the gouge on the nut. I understand there are tons of other customers who send their reels in for service. That is why when given a 2-week turnaround time, I assume tack on another couple weeks for ...
