The white part is a spacer/protector to prevent wet line from sitting against the spool and causing corrosion (saltwater). It also prevents wear from braided line against the anodized surface.
Thank You for the clarification.

Re: Plastic Clip on Shimano Spinning Reel Spool

Always thought of them to have been added as to give tighter hold on more modern day lines, than that of earlier spool clip designs. There's that opaque plastic backing plate behind the actual clip. Plastic Clip on Shimano Spinning Reel Spool

I bought two brand new Shimano 2500 reels, and in the pic below, one of the spools has a white plastic clip behind the line keeper and the other spool doesn't. What is the white plastic clip for, and do I need it. I just used to clip the line behind the black keeper. Thanks for any help. http://i.im...

Cal's Grease and gears/bearings

Just a question for all you reel guys out there. Do any of you grease all your gears and bearings with Cal's except the spool bearing or do you grease only gears and oil all bearings? Finally when you grease your gears, do you apply grease to every gear or only to the one gear that drives the other ...

Shimano Stadic Bail, doesn't fully close

I have two reels as shown in the picture below. I am cleaning them for a friend, and when I flip the bail and then crank the handle, the bail doesn't fully trip over. It kind of goes mid point and just spins. I have tried cleaning the bail mechanism along with oiling it. On one reel it helped on the...

Re: felt washer life in spinning setups

I've switched all mine to Carbontex as well. I also lap my drag washers on a diamond board and grease the Carbontex with Cal's drag grease. I'm able to get really smooth, light start up and big stopping power depending on how tight I have the drag set. The only reel I haven't changed is my mackerel...

Re: felt washer life in spinning setups

I changed all mine over to Carbontex. Probably won't have to change them now as I maintain all my reels yearly. I personally like Carbontex over felt. JMO

So I know I need that and probably the bail ass'y. The bail ass'y noted above. Does that include everything I nee...

Re: 3D Printed 10mm Nut Driver Bit

So just a quick update on the progression of the nut driver above. I went from a single use tool to a multi-use tool. The concept drawing is below. The final product was 3d printed as well pic below. This tool went from a 10mm socket to a 10 and 11mm socket. Thanks goes out to triple_illusion for an...
