Deep Creek Lake Maryland
Howdy all,
I'm staying at a place on Deep Creek Lake the second weekend of January. I am driving there, and thought about packing a few rods.
Does anyone know if the lake will be frozen by then? I'm not going to pack fishing gear for the long drive if it's not needed.
Thanks in advance.

Don’t know if it will be frozen on your trip, but it does freeZe hard enough to ice fish there.

I just asked a guy that I know who lives up there, he responded "it's so fickle, it's hard to say. but it's usually frozen by mid january".

I had a feeling that might be the case. Perhaps I'll just limit myself to bringing two rods.
Thanks for asking buddy.

He did backtrack a little and said that the ramps close well before the lake really freezes, so bank fishing might have a longer season.Gone Phishin wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 12:32 pmI had a feeling that might be the case. Perhaps I'll just limit myself to bringing two rods.

I live in central MD and we are only just now getting nights below freezing, but it’s going to be almost 60f this Saturday, so it’s really anyone’s guess.

Right on, thank you much. Any fishing would definitely be from the bank of the place I'm staying at.Houndfish wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 12:40 pmHe did backtrack a little and said that the ramps close well before the lake really freezes, so bank fishing might have a longer season.Gone Phishin wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 12:32 pmI had a feeling that might be the case. My buddy lives a bit east of there into WV, and that's what he said as well...he said an extended forecast could look like a winning Powerball ticket.
