I think you want one of the Air reels or Shimano BFS reels for that.
But then I wouldn’t be getting “hyper armed digi-gear sv housing hyper drive reborn” lol

But I do enjoy the smoothness on these new Zillions/Alphas.

It is impossible to find a Rays or Roro spool for this thing at the moment.

Looks like there is a Ray's. My experience is that these spools are great but better with bass BFS baits rather than true UL use. I find the braking profile too fast. Think 1/16 oz ned rig or bitsy bug vs a crappie jig.

The delivery on that spool is September 9!

I figured anything would help over the stock spool. Bummed the 800s isn’t actually a BFS spool though.

Thats aliexpress for you. You can find some of the Ray's items sold as SDS Customs on eBay for a modest price increase. The spool may be sold there and it may have a quicker shipping time. Maybe.

A foul Alphas or Millionaire? Yeah I would much prefer to not deal with backing.
Alphas Shallow. Was feeling this when spooling up line. I don’t expect Amazon JP staff to know much about fishing reels, so I took this demonstration video to avoid too much discussion…

That is about what my Steez A did. Was smooth other than a faint ticking when pulling line. Only difference is the Steez wouldn't do it in hand and was not quite as pronounced as your Alphas was.

One of my zillion sv tw’s sounds like that but without the ticking.

It’s maddening. I’ve changed and lubed every bearing and still has that loud grindy noise when reeling.

I think my next move is to send it to spanky at TTT and see if he can figure it out.

Did you open it up or already doing that out of the box? They do that when not reassembled correctly after opening and removing the internals around. Or can be a bad ARB too.

Remove the spool and turn the handle steadily. If you hear the same ticking noise then it needs to be reassembled. If not I'm guessing bad ARB or levelwind worm gear.

It did that right out of the box but only when there was some load on the system, like spooling up with a little tension. Without load, not recognizable. Changed out spools didn’t help.
I’ve already sent it back to Japan, didn’t want to start discussing if I tried to solve it myself and wouldn’t manage to - if there was an actual defect and needed replacement parts.
It’s brand new, shouldn’t sound like that. I don’t desperately need it so bye. Amazon refunds the return fee if it’s a defect so I’m not too bothered

If it was a Shimano Id dig right in and open up as replacement parts are cheap - in Germany you can’t even get any Daiwa parts and ordering from Japan is ridiculously expensive. 115$ for a gear set of a 210$ reel? Yeah nah thanks.

I found a roro spool that said would ship in two weeks so I ordered it: https://rorolure.com/collections/daiwa/ ... 2367625389

We shall see.

Nice. Also that braking profile should be better suited to true UL baits like a crappie jig.

Maybe I’m too late since you already order fix inductor Roro spool. I don’t see why Ray’s spool can not handle 1/16oz jig head with the right line and right rod. I have many Ray’s spool on old alphas or pixy and those spool can handle all the way down to 1/24oz head. The Ray’s for alphas SV TW spool even lighter and hold less line.
I use this Ray’s spool for finesse bass fishing with light braid though.
