PE/Braid capacity for Daiwa Alphas Air?

Post by mubby » Sat Dec 03, 2016 4:47 pm

Hi folks,

I noticed on the reel manual that it seemed that there was a hard recommended limit of 50m (given for both 6lb test and 8lb test). The warning section also said not to exceed 50m of 8lb test because of risk of spool deformation, and not to go below 6lb test (or PE line?) because of spool deformation or (what google translate gave me) line chewing.

I'm planning on putting on 8lb test J-Braid, which after some calcs I figure I can put on ~90meters of. Does the seeming hard limit of 50m (due to manufacturer-stated risks) hold with PE line? How much braid have others put on this (or other shallow spool) reel?

Thanks in advance!
