Is my Antares 16 DC faulty?

Got my Antarares 16 DC, previously been using a Scorption XT. I've spooled it with 50lb powerpro braid with some mono backing, basically the same as I have on my Scorpion.

Now the thing is casting a lure, I am getting random backlashes, this shouldnt be happening on a DC reel?! I get nowwhere near the buttery smooth experience the other posters are talking about. I've definitely got it on the 'braid' setting, and have the brakes between 1-2 clicks of minimum. Casts that I do easily with my Scorpion end up with birds nest, but I know the DC is working to some extent as there is a difference when I adjust the brake setting.

So, what gives? Any ideas? The only thing I've sort of managed to narrow down is that bird nests happen more frequently when the line is dry at the start, but I am still getting them after the whole spool is soaked, just less frequently. Other than that I'm out of ideas!
