2020 Met MGL vs 2019 Antares

Post by y2k88 » Sun Apr 26, 2020 12:57 am

Apart from the weight, what are people's thoughts about these 2 reels and how they compare?
Which to get...

I have both. They are both great reels. The Antares is by far the best casting reel I’ve ever used. I wished it weighed a little less. I have been going back and forth with these two on my jig rod (XTasy 755). The Antares casts a 3/8 jig much better than the Metanium. It’s also a little smoother.

I have both. And both are great casters but the antares is more refined.

I own and love both. To me they cast the same - the most noticeable aspect is the weight. I wouldn’t put the Antares on anything lighter (actual weight and balance of the rod, not the power) than my 115g 7‘ MH rod. With that heavy of a real, lighter rods lose too much fun factor in handling.

I also have both and have not noticed any significant difference in performance/casting - yet.

Both are great reels. I do not mind the weight difference. I am very strong - 220 grams, 45 grams more than the Met, is just manageable :D

One nice thing, albeit maybe a minor thing, in favour of the Met is the availability of different aftermarket spools, e.g. Yumeya and KTF spools. I have the two different KTF spools on the way. I hope that aftermarket spools are coming to the Antares.
