Daiwa 20 HRF TW PE Special

Post by LowRange » Sun May 03, 2020 3:26 pm

New HRF this time based on the Tatula 100. It is a PE line reel with a distance tuned Magforce Z spool. I always liked the looks of the old Tatula based HRF with the bright red and black paint. This new one is more of a crimson red. Looks a lot like a Type R Tatula 100.

Features:

High speed level wind

Upgraded clutch?

Aluminium handle side plate

New spool

It's incredibly how much effort is Daiwa putting in Tatula series...

It's nomal that steez sales are going down...

Reel arrived today- Spooled it up with 20# Fireline Ultra 8 and put it on a Kuying Leadership.
Throwing 1/4 spoon 100' was quite easy and it feels smooth. Beautiful crimson red with black palm plate which looks goofy- wish they would have gone crimson on entire reel.
Selling point for me was the longer handle and built in drag clicker which adds $30 to every reel I buy as I have it in all my collection.
Anyone have this and the Coastal? Just curious on how they compare.
Coastal will be next purchase.

1/4 oz is about max for the leadership isn't it? Why only 100 feet? I can use my leadership to cast way lighter baits way further. I think the heavy spool of the HRF TW PE is the culprit.

Yes 1/4 oz is the max on the leadership.
Im sure it will be easier and much more efficient with thinner line. The Fireline Ultra 8 is extremely thick braid. I will spool it up tomorrow with smaller line and throw it on a better rod for further testing in the field!

Took it out again with same setup and measured my casts- Averaged 121' with mag on 8 with no problems- backing it down to 6 led to heavy fluffing throughout the cast and it did not end well.
I bought the reel for throwing 2/5-2/3 oz spoons for steelhead but just had to see what it would do with lighter weight....
