Spool Bearings DC Reels

Post by a1712 » Mon Jun 14, 2021 7:58 am

Has anyone upgraded their spool bearings in a DC Reel? Anyone with an opinion on this? Thanks all, Brian.

All my DC reels still have the stock bearings in them never felt the need to take them out.

I have put 3 full ceramic bearings in my exsence. I keep telling myself that is has helped with light lures and distance, but I have not done any serious measurements.

Distance was good from the get-go.

A good flushing with light oil would probably make the difference as new bearings.

With that said I've changed some of mine to the Hedgehog AirHD

How much more over the stock bearings have you found them to be inside the platform that you are using?

I have a pair of zpi in my Met DC. No difference in performance. It adds a bit of that sound from ceramic hybrid bearings, which i don't want to hear on a DC reel. Not worth using on a DC reel.

If you somehow have problems with the originals, i'd buy the hedgehog ZR bearings instead. Silent, cheaper and perform very well.

You mean flushed stock vs out the box stock? For some folks it'll be noticeable difference in performance.
The airHD vs out the box, a big difference.

I'm a believer of fully servicing a reel prior to use

I have installed a set of high-performance ceramic bearings in my OG Conquest 101DC (primary cranking reel since 2007) and the performance is measurably better than the cleaned (flushed with acetone in ultrasonic) stock bearings.

In fact, the OG 101DC has significantly better casting performance than my new Conquest DC 101HG with stock bearings (also flushed and reoiled) and all braking 'off'.

Regards,
Doc
