The clear plastic is just a protector prior to use and it should be removed before using.

Ah got it...I was deciphering based upon my need to pull apart a stuck 2-piece Megabass 7'11" Cyber Shootist that I have.
If you use the ice (cold) method to separate your rod, please let us know how it works out for you.

what's your experience with PG170H if you don't mind? have my eyes on it for a while now and debating should I just go all the way to PU172H...blank wise don't think much difference between the two and I'm pretty happy with my PG spinning models...

I had to do that for a Triza that I couldn't separate anymore. Megabass customer service suggested cooling the blank down. Main challenge is actually getting the blank cold TBH, it's not like you can just stick it in the freezer. After that it shrinks the ferrule just the tiniest bit so that force can pull the rod apart. It's not like it's super easy to remove all of the sudden, or that the rod would ever fly apart when fished in cold weather.

Hi so what do you think about this rod? does being a 2 piece have a big sensitivity loss compared to a full 1 piece? any chance of the piece coming undone while casting and going into the water? what are your thoughts on this rod vs a Adrena of similar spec
Not a single Shimano rod with monocoque grip is a 1-piece AFAIK. They all have blanks that all glued into the grip, so it's not like you're really losing sensitivity here when you stick it in instead: it's such a tight fit (no way it'll come out when fishing), and at the very bottom of the blank, that it doesn't affect the action of the rod.

I would delete this post if I could but I can't so I am editing instead. Monocoque Grip is the whole thing and my spinning models do not have a Monocoque Grip. Only my BFS PG has the 'full' Monocoque Grip.

I'm editing again. I was just checking out the Shimano Japan website and apparently I was wrong. It doesn't have to be a 'full Monocoque Grip' to be considered a Monocoque Grip.

In that case, out of the 3 new model PG's that I have, only my 267L+ came in 2 pieces.

I like it. Power and taper are similar to the nrx 873.

I think what Drakestar was getting at is the monocoque grip isn't part of the rolled blank. The blank is glued into a separately manufactured handle to create a "one piece rod".

I'm interested in the PG 170H too. My main interest is pitching jigs to the outskirts of heavy cover. However, the Glorius technique chart surprised me in showing the 170H as suitable rather than optimal for jigs. Does anyone like or dislike the idea of the 170H as a dedicated rod for pitching jigs? I'm out of a kayak, so 7' is my max length. Thanks!

It's a "Jig and Worm Concept" rod. I'm sure it would be fine. Designed to be held tip up too.
The vertical hold unique to jig and worming rods makes the tip lighter.

161L-BFS, 170H, 2510UL, 266L, 267UL+, 268M+, 2610L/MH, 2610L-S 268UL/ML-G, 166L+-BFS, 1611ML/H, 2510UL-S
, 2610UL/M, 2610ML/H
In this series, which has a long time to hold the tip in the upward direction, it is designed to feel lighter than the previous model when
operating.

I got the 166L+ BFS in yesterday. SiC version, weighs 89.40 grams on my scale, an increase over the 87 grams when the weights were taken with torzite guides. Balances tip up on the lock nut with an Aldebaran BFS. Hope to get out with it Saturday.

Looking forward to hearing about that 166L! On the 170H, it being a "Jig and Worm Concept" rod is why the technique chart listing it as suitable rather than optimal for jigs seemed so odd. I agree it's probably great at it though.
