Using polishing compound on classic Abu 2500C reels??

Post by Shadowcaster1969 » Sat Sep 04, 2021 8:37 pm

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone had tried using aluminum polishing compounds like Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish (https://mothers.com/products/mag-and-al ... lish-05101) on classic Abu reels like the 1600C and 2500c? If you had would appreciate if you could share how that had turned out. Thanks!

They're hard anodised aluminium, so you'd have to mechanically or chemically remove that surface before going to town polishing the aluminium to a high lustre.

Thanks for pointing that out. I think it's best that I do not get too advanturous with those polishing compounds. My intension was to buff off some minor scratches and get rid of some oxidation on the reel, but I guess polishing compounds isn't the solution for this case... :)

Best Regards

I don't think there's much you can do for anodised surfaces. Once you get a scratch or blemish let alone corrosion that's it, you've got it for life.

Beautiful reels by the way.

Thanks! They are still a pleasure to fish like the day I first got them almost 20years ago. :)

I still remember and most possibly still have a fishing catalogue cut out of these series for sale late 1998 circa here in Australia, on sale for $199...

Not an absolute steal back then, but now absolutely...
