Hmm, I might have to pick one up to compare to my 17 Exsence DC reels and see how they do on my Steez AGS Extra Heavy Cover Special rods for frog fishing duties now that the weed growth has finally picked up in the NW Wisconsin waters, I frequent. I'm especially curious about the refinements to the 4x8 DC cast control system and how that will fare in the windy summer afternoon conditions on our bigger bodies of water. I'm assuming the usual suspects that sell JDM reels will soon have pre-orders for these reels, and this isn't yet another "paper" launch that means we won't actually see any physical products until 2023.

Please have a great day!

I read Jun's synopsis on Japan Tackle, and it sounds like it wouldn't be the best for blade baits. Bummer if so.

My first DC was the 17 Exsence. I believe this is essentially a MG7 (Core 100) body, with the DC tech, and a faster 8.0 gear ratio.

I'm still getting used to the clicking drag. I'm sure there are various discussions regarding this drag, but I still don't know how from a performance factor, having a non clicking or clicking drag on a bait caster hurts or helps. It feels weird when you're puling line out manually, but I can't even really feel it when a fish pulls drag, maybe because I've never had a real drag pealer.

So it sounds the 22 Esxence has a smaller form factor than the 17? I wonder how different the drag sounds.

I know the Exsence 17 was made for light saltwater duty, and I can definitely see that this reel excels from 3/8ths to 3/4th. When I had to throw 1/4 stuff on it, you could tell that it was out of the range.

I don't need 130 yards of 10 on my bass outfits, as I'm not chasing sailfish.

That is the reason why I lean towards JDM. I can always find a shallow spool somewhere.

Maybe I am about to make a dumb comment. But isn't this the 2021 Antares DC in a saltwater version? Looks identical to besides the coating.

Pretty much.

Change a tiny detail, rebrand it, sell it!

Or just come out with 5 different models every year, and voila. People line up to purchase.
