Bought a Millionaire CT SV, what to expect?

Post by raindance » Mon Nov 07, 2022 11:41 am

Will be delivered this week. I love round reels, and found this on one of the japanese online stores for a decent price. What to expect with it? Lowest weight lures I can expect to use with it? most of my fishing is in salt water at shore or jettys, for mackerel and such.

I need to write a detailed review on mine. I got a Conquest and loved it, so I decided to try a Millionaire too. I have been amazed by the casting ability with 8lb fluorocarbon. I throw 2" Easy Shiners with 3.5 gram and under heads. I throw weightless plastics easily, and tons of 1/8oz area shaky heads or other jigheads with tiny plastics. The Millionaire is very smooth, not quite as smooth as the new Zillion, but to me it feels just like what it is. Alphas SV105 gears housed in a super precision aluminum frame.

For the negatives, it doesn't hold much line, especially if you get over 10lb fluorocarbon. I think you could still run 10lb or 12lb easily, just have to know your limits. I also think the reel's 30mm spool isn't ideal for anything over 1/2oz. Mine can still make it work, but the smaller spool seems to limit distance with heavier lures.

I personally couldn't take the 80mm handle. It felt weird on the Millionaire so I added a 90mm with larger knobs.

I have mine mounted on a 6'10" Legend Glass spooled with 10lb. Samurai Fluoro. I fish small Lipless, small Squarebills, Paddle Tails, Spinnerbaits and Bladed Jigs. It's an extremely fun reel/rod combo to fish. I also replaced the handle to an Avail 90mm with cork knobs. Brian.

One of my favorites. I run the SV700S in mine spooled with 0.8 PE and fish a lot of minnow style baits ranging from 3g to 6g. For the lures I usually fish, I prefer it to the Calcutta Conquest BFS.

Mine just showed up. Haven't fished it yet, but the overall feel is seriously high end to me. I was shocked that I like the feel more than my Conquest BFS, which has been my favorite high end reel to date.

My plan is to use the Millionaire for finesse jerkbait fishing with Vision 110 Jr's and 8lb flouro. I found myself fishing those 110 jr's for river smallies on every trip over the last 2 years, so I'm building out my ultimate combo.

The rod I'm searching for the Megabass Destroyer Eliminator. Need to find it on the right website for exchange rate savings. That's my hope anyway. No success yet.

Thanks all, very informative responses. No idea what rod to use it, the first one on the list is a Phenix Feather L. Or maybe the BFS version of the Curado or Zodias rod. I am planning on filling it with 6lb flouro or maybe thin PE braid. The 700s spool seems out of stock at digitaka, I'll hold off on that. Not sure how much it will improve the capability on light lures.

I like it, about as effective as the OG Alphas Air even though the spool itself weighs about half a gram more. I can get down to a little under 2g with the SV700S. Just a word of warning, the SV700S is picky about bearings and I've found the factory ones to perform best. I tried Roros and the spool starts up way too fast, which in turn makes the brake come on too early. Anything less than 3 ticks on the brake was backlash city and anything more sacrificed distance. With the factory bearings, I have the full range of braking available and typically run it at 2, or 3 in the wind.

Hedgehog has a SV700 spool in stock. Is that the same spool being discussed?

Also, as I've been fondling my new Millionaire, I've noticed I can barely hear the gears when turning the handle. Just barely. I cannot feel anything. The reel feels super smooth. I've opened it and the gears are greased well. I'll probably clean and regrease here shortly. Do you guys hear just a little gear noise on your Millionaires?

My millionaire did until I took it out and broke it in after a couple hours fishing. Spool bearings being dry can be noisy. Thinking of getting the 700S spool to fish creeks with and 4lb fluoro or 10lb braid.

I couldn't handle the dumb red lock plate that it comes with. Ordered the orange lock plate from the Alphas CT SV70 and the orange tension knob. The tension knob fits and the orange highlights look awesome. Will post pics a little later. Just sharing this for anyone that wants to stick with the stock orange color on their Millionaire.

And pics. Thought it would take me longer to getting around to posting. Just a couple shots.

Mine. :laugh1: The guy who posted the pics. It's from the Alpha CT SV70. So stoked it fits. If only SLP Works still produced that short armed threaded drag star. It even came in orange.

I am gonna have to order an orange tension knob for mine, looks good. If you use a regular 90mm handle, that orange lock plate won't overlap at all.
