What is the frame size for the new CC BFS compared to the latest CC DC 100 and CC 100? Thanks in advance.

It's hard to determine the size comparison between the new 2023 Conquest BFS reel and the existing 2020 Conquest 100 DC and 100 reels since there are no photos showing the different models that I have seen so far.

There's much more specific information at the official Shimano Conquest BFS Reel Product Page: https://fish-shimano-com.translate.goog ... r_hl=en-US

Thank you. How does the latest CC compare with the latest CC DC in 100 size?

I don’t have CQ BFS but I think previous CQ BFS along with 2020 CQ DC100 base on 2014 CQ100. This new 2023 CQ BFS look to be base from 2021 CQ100.
I look at handle side plate where gear location. 2014 CQ 100, 2017 CQ BFS and 2020 CQ100DC is rounded.

Yes, I believe this is the case, however, when I compare the new CQ-BFS, the current CQ 100, and the CQ 100 DC reel specifications on the Shimano JP site, they come out at: 195g for the new CQ-BFS, 220g for the CQ 100, and a whopping 240g for the CQ 100 DC reel. I don't have any of the new model CQ 100 reels to compare to my six CQ 100 DC reels but the new CQ-BFS reel weighs 0.8oz less than the current CQ 100 and 1.41oz less than my current CQ 100 DC reels. Wow! I guess it will really be noticeable on my two Sedition SDC-702ML Cristobal Limited rods and the new Yamaga Blanks Blue Current III 6'9" BFS rod I have coming from Japan.

Now I just have to wait another 3-4 months for the ice to melt here in the frozen tundra of MN and NW Wisconsin. ](*,) :crying:

Maybe I missed it but does it have the FTB brake system?

Yes, it has the same FTB system from the 2022 Aldebaran BFS reel. I'm still mystified how they managed to knock off almost an ounce in weight from the current Conquest 100 reel.

And so far, there is only one more expensive major JDM reel retailer taking pre-orders, so I'm waiting for the other more cost effective major JDM reel retailer to offer pre-orders for right-hand version before I pre-order my two new Conquest BFS reels.

Maybe you are overthinking a little. If you compare to 2017 CQ BFS only 5 gram less.
The weight difference from 2021CQ100 is about 20 grams total. The cutoff handle (finesse style) on BFS can save maybe 5-10 grams, MGLiii spool with no brake blocks 3-5 grams. Maybe housing for FTB (magnet) weight less than housing with brass drum for SVS. I don’t know just a guess.

I'm certain I'm over-thinking this topic in its entirety! It's so exciting to see new casting reels based on one of my favorite reel platforms! \:D/

I held out so long on the 17 Conquest BFS (got mine November 2021). I will not be holding out for this version. The XG gears bearing available is the deal maker for me. Why have 6.8 gears on a "stream reel"? IPT matters and the small trout lures do not need the torque. I know the reel is used in bass fishing and all that, just seems like the reel is "made for the streams".

The 22 Aldebaran BFS braking/spool is amazing so, I expect great results from this reel. I am looking forward to reviewing it and sharing my thoughts.

Maybe this is the time for me to learn left hand retrieve, so I can get my paws on one early.

Anyone else make the switch after right hand retrieving your whole life? How did it go?

Are you right handed in general? Do you cast with right?

For me, baitcasting reels are either or. Spinning reels...they just gross me out when retrieved with the right hand. I think it is a combination of not enough time with them and, spinning reels never necessitate the singular use of LH/RH.

I write with my left hand, play all sports with my right hand hand, cast with my right hand and retrieve Bait casters with the right hand, retrieve spinning gear with my left hand. Currently, retrieving a bait caster with my left hand feels extremely awkward. but retrieving spinning gear with the left feels normal. I don't understand it. Like you said, just maybe more practice.

I didn’t switch but now use both retrieve pretty efficiently. I still cast right most of the time though but can back hand cast on left. You should give it a try, one suggestion though practice on the reel you are most comfortable with and upgrade to longer handle. To be able to use both hands to control the rod give me a lot of advantages. Using dominant hand for small finesse movements or pop and jerk is more precise than other hand.
BTW I use right hand reel for 30+years before tried left hand 3-4 years ago.

Good way to reduce arthritis too! Share the wear and tear to both hands
