I don’t understand what this is yet. Magforce connected to some intelligent daiwa version of DC? Connecting the reel to a smartphone? Maybe I’m interpreting the YouTube incorrectly. I look forward to being educated

Yeah looks like their version of dc which can connect to an app on the phone. Not sure what all you can do on the app though.

I also spied via catalog a listed price 125k yen. Might be an unpopular opinion, but I’m not too keen on using a phone to do anything to a reel on the water. Guess I should withhold judgement until I know more.

For that price maybe you can talk to it like Alexa . But I agree I’ve never been real big on the dc reels anyway but they are useful in some situations.

This is pretty wild, not sure about it either. A little too much going on for me. I fish so I can get away from phones and computers lol. On the other hand, for those that have been asking for a new Z it seems like its finally here. Looks based off of or very similar to the old frame/body.

Phone app is used for logging stats and to push software updates into the reel (new braking modes, etc). It's not used to operate the reel.

There's a button on the palm side plate to select the brake mode (currently 4) and brake strength (8 total) using short or long presses.

As for the the braking system, does it have a unique noise on a cast? Its hard to tell in the video. Also, there better be more than 3 braking settings. The LED is something i always imagined being a thing as a cool gimmick, and now they've finally done it. This thing is gonna be expensive

Or build in planned obsolescence - after the 5,000th cast 'kaput' it's a slippery slide, especially app control and upkeep of that alone... And how's that battery and USB port going to go being stored in a hot car or a humid rod locker? How long does the battery have as an overall lifespan - 1 to 3 years especially in over hot or cold environments?

It's not like this things is fully encapsulated, self energizing and solid state - if it was now there's a game changer...

I can guarantee this has been looked at (to some degree) by the originator of DC braking system, but likely avoided for it's reasons.

Can of worms questions in my own mind.

Been able to see this one, but none of the other projected Daiwa releases (other than the spinning reels). There is some new SS Air TW reel, with a new Magforce?

I think this IMZ is a neat idea, but man that is getting expensive. And this one does have to actually be charged. Wonder if you could buy two batteries/sideplates?

In that regard, the most important information for now is all the way at the end of the main product page:

As I interpret this, this reel would be rendered useless and stuck in the default mode as the app will be only available in Japan. Maybe you could get around it using a VPN, using a japanese address for your AppStore billing info and setting the store to Japan. Then you'd need a second smartphone to hover the Google translate app over your primary phone to be able to read what's going on

Oh and the price is 125,000 yen.

If this is the future, it will be introduced to the US eventually. For a even steeper price.

Daiwa introduced Z2020 decade ago. Now on 2020's they introduced long waited new 'Z2020' which is now named as IM Z Limitbreaker' But interesting to see. Somehow I hate it already but somehow something tells me that this reel must be bought.

Seems like a gimmick to me. I bought an early DC reel and wasn't impressed.

Next we will have a reel that is linked to your FF sonar and it will drop your bait right in front of the fish.
