No. There is no point in having a reel that you cannot unlock its full potential without the App that will only work in Japan.
The reel comes locked in Standard cast mode and requires registration with the APP to unlock the other cast modes.
It is stated in the specs the APP is not supported outside of Japan. And at 125000JPY that's in collectable monoblock territory.

So it's confirmed that brake adjustments cannot be made without your phone/their app, and even that is perhaps not available outside of Japan?

The Intelligent Magforce can be adjusted and fine tuned via the app and side button to adjust brake modes for various baits and conditions.

As I understand the website you can toggle between brake modes on the reel but you need to unlock those modes first via the app. So no app no additional brake modes except the default one. Google translate could be wrong tho.

Because they're over 10 years apart. The newer gears that's being made by Daiwa are very different to what was made ages ago.

Daiwa has a history or dusting off an old platform and putting it back in service. 2013 Tatula -> 2023 Tatula HD. 2004 Alphas -> 2019 Alphas CT 70 2006 Zillion -> 2015 SV103. This new real does appear to be based on the Z platform so the likelihood of gears being interchangeable is very good.

It doesn't look like a whole new platform to me. We'll find out in time but seems like a modified version of an old platform to me based on what I have seen so far but this is probably wishful thinking.

It is interesting that we can be so different. I would love to get stat tracking in every one of my reels. I never went for a DC reel before as normal brakes were working just fine. On the other hand I would love to analyze my fishing sessions. In the future it will have built in GPS with real time weather tracking and will give you a complete report of your fishing. That would be huge imho.

If this reel becomes successful, smart reels could become much more widespread and popular. Could be the next real innovation and it would be much more than a breaking system.

That’s what most of us dinosaurs did by keeping extensive fishing logs for decades. All for the cost of a #2 Fort Ticonderoga pencil.

I despise having to even take my work phone on the water let alone this wizardry.
