2023 Metanium 100
New Metanium??
Was on Digitaka website and noticed a Metanium 100 under Shimano reels with “New” labeled. The pic looks like the old 2020 Metanium. It’s called Metanium 100 ‘23, hg & xg models. Spool “kinda” looks deeper. Thing is the price is 48,000 yen, which is wayyyy more than the Metanium DC
. I heard there is a Japan show this weekend, maybe more info to come. As far as from the pic shows, I don’t understand why a reg 2020 Metanium w/ a deeper spool would cost 48,000 yen. Perhaps it’s the new DC, who knows

Re: 2023 Metanium 100
lol shimano just rehashing the exact same reels, put "new" on the box and call it a day, oh and increase the price of course. Exciting.
Re: New Metanium??
Only thing new about this is the new spool variant and the price. I don‘t understand how they justify a difference of ¥1900 between the 70 and 100 spool size. The 70 however seems to have gone up by ¥2200 also. Good we never pay suggested retail prices.Hennessy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 8:19 amWas on Digitaka website and noticed a Metanium 100 under Shimano reels with “New” labeled. The Met DC stands at ¥57800 SRP which hasn’t increased.
Here’s all the info:

Re: 2023 Metanium 100
Not DC...just deeper spool it seems. Not sure why they call this one a 100 as it appears to be the exact same reel as the 150 2020.
"A new option with line capacity of 14lb-100m from 2023."

Re: 2023 Metanium 100
At least hey didn't dust off a 2013 met and call it a 2023 Metanium 100 HD like a certain other company has been known to do.
Re: 2023 Metanium 100
Maybe they fixed the gear grinding issues and called it new
Re: 2023 Metanium 100
Looks to me Shimano is just releasing the USDM spec reel in Japan and giving it a new name?

Re: 2023 Metanium 100
US/JDM spool sizes are the same. But the US model has a slightly longer handle. But that would be hilarious if they did that, albeit not much more hilarious than releasing the same reel with a different spool. Again...
Re: 2023 Metanium 100
maybe they just hit a wall in innovation and the only way to continue revenue generation is to make a small tweak and release itTerra Ferma wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 7:03 pm

Re: 2023 Metanium 100
what's the big deal? It's just a new deeper spool option for the japanese market. Not a new reel. No official website said it was a new reel. The tag on the shimano page reads "update" on the same old 2020 Matanium product page.
USDM Metanium 150 capacity = US stated Bantam capacity (both 110yd / 12lb)
JDM Metanium 100: 120m / 12lb, Japanese stated Bantam capacity: 130m / 12lb.
So the 100 holds 10m less 12lb line than the EU/USDM 150, that's 10,9 yards. Barely anything?](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif)
Handle - yes. Spool - Not correct. The US and EU 2020 Metanium has a deeper, larger capacity 150 size spool, the JDM 2020 Metanium is a size 70.Terra Ferma wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 7:03 pmUS/JDM spool sizes are the same. Close but nope. Take the Bantam for reference, which is the same all over the world. You can't just convert the length as the japanese seem to use different diameters for the same lb test:Terra Ferma wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 2:46 pmNot sure why they call this one a 100 as it appears to be the exact same reel as the 150 2020.
