PLAT bargain reels, and the Daiwa tick

Post by y2k88 » Wed Jan 25, 2023 12:59 am

Hey all, not sure where to put this, because not sure if it's a Daiwa reel issue, a Plat bargin reel thing, or just pure coincidence.

But I've bought 2 reels from Plat's bargain/garbage bin sale, and both times, it's been a Daiwa BC reel and both have had a tick in the main gear (once per rotation in the same location).

Just reaching out to see if anyone's experienced similar?

Ahhh the daiwa tick, i know it very well, its my fav daiwa friend. Its 95% chance gears issue. I've had it on a bunch of different reels, and even got it with semi new gears that i got from Plat. I think that some gears are simply poorly cut, they wear out differently, and the tick happens quickly, especially if you're using your reel for baits that put decent tension on the gears.

I shouldve added both reels were brand new and had the tick.

Evidently it appears that Plat's bargain/garbage bin Daiwa reels come with a tick as a standard feature.

If you can return them, you should. Otherwise you need to swap gears. If you have another reel with the same gears, swap to see if the tick transfers to the other reel.

Think quicker to cut my losses and just get a new gear set when it annoys me enough.

Hi, thanks for getting back quickly.
I think it's not possible to show it in video, I can only describe it.
But you can feel a bump/tick as you reel at constant speed (like during
retrieving, tick tick tick feeling).
It occurs at the same location, which is generally an indication there may
be some damage/bad manufacturing/ assembling issue in the main gear I
thought.
Hope that makes sense. I haven't used the reel yet or added line yet.
As you may know, reel is machine so every reels has such feeling.
The maker has acceptable level and they will only put on a market if the reel is in this range.

The feeling is really so bad ?
If you think it is "Inferior", you can send it back to DAIWA.
I can send it to DAIWA Japan for investigate .
I don't know if they will accept it as Inferior .

I hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards.

Find the ding in the tooth, polish it out.

Won't work. You won't see any dings, i tried on 3-4 of my reels that had it.

Did you try "blueing" the gears and look for irregular wear?

Look at your spool pin with a magnifying glass. They will often be damaged or not centered. I have ran across this even on new reels. I've "fixed" many ticks with a new spool pin. Another thing it could be is the pinion gear slot has a bur on it.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

That's too far lol i didn't. But i did inspect with a x40 magnifier, and nothing can be seen.

The tick my Steez A had was a levelwind issue. Seemed to be gears but wasn't.
