it's spring time! (if you dress for it).
Crystal Minnows in very shallow took these two brownies.
We were fortunate to get a second.

The sightfishing has been on fire lately. Lots of big fish moving up shallow. Caught on custom Conquest 842c/Stile SS

Nice fish, Jeff! I'll be back down the 3rd week of June.JBcrankaddict wrote: ↑Sun Apr 17, 2022 9:36 amThe sightfishing has been on fire lately. Lots of big fish moving up shallow. Caught on custom Conquest 842c/Stile SS
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Got up to Lake Erie last week for a little smallie fishing. Caught 8 over 5lbs and this trophy. She went 7.47 on the digital scale.

Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!
that beauty's gotta come with a story....
I'm guessing Erie is still pre-spawn with water temps in the low 50's? Were you sight fishing wolf packs on the prowl?
Did you get her using light stuff, ned rig or similar? or chucking a lipless or jerk bait?
While fat like a spawning fish, I suspect it just fat from gorging on gobies.

Steve yes Erie is still prespawn. Water temps were 47-52 during my 4 days of fishing. All fish were caught casting & drifting in mostly 10-23 fow. I have never sight fished for smallies in Erie. Usually main lake visibility is only 4-6 feet making sight fishing pretty difficult but their are exceptions. Deep diving & shallow jerk baits were the ticket using spinning tackle with 10lb braid & 12lb mono leader. At 7.47lbs she was a large framed prespawn fish.

40”+ redfish will definitely get the heart pumping while wade fishing. Lots of big redfish in the shallows lately, as well as a few flounder. Custom Conquest 842c/Stile SS still gets the job done everyday.

I found some smallies fishing those same temps, in those same depths fishing for trout and salmon in Lake Ontario this spring. I stopped trolling a few times and casted, without success.
But those conditions are exactly what I was dealing with.
Appreciate it....and again, helluva fish!
