its not much

Post by ecu daniel 14 » Wed Feb 20, 2013 4:10 pm

But I absolutely love this combo. For just over $200 its really hard to beat, IMO. The 13 Omen series is extremely nice for its price point, and absolutely blows away other rods in the $99 range as far as cosmetics and sensitivity (of course both of those arent facts, just opinions). This 6'7" M is amazing for small finesse and topwater. Its shortened butt really helps while twitching a spook across a glassy salt flat. Its got a ton of backbone, and just enough tip, and somewhat feels like the Phenix Recon. The Daiwa Lexa is literally the best reel ive ever used for $140, ($100 on eBay). Its not bad on the eyes either.

How low have you been able to go with the Lexa? I'm interested in getting one for cranking, but I need to be able to throw small hardbaits with it.

I can throw tiny 1/8oz cranks with it with some easy. For the untrained thumb it can be somewhat difficult though. I think the Lexa excels in lures 1/4-5/8oz to be honest. I think it would make a fine cranking reel.

That's pretty cool that you can get some equipment for that cheap (by TT standards) that look and perform that well.
I have been eyeing a couple Lexas myself. Hopefully get to handle a 300 and 100 at the Classic Expo this weekend.

Killer new combo, all that stuff is really hot right now.

I have handled the 13 Omen and the Envy and have to say I am impressed for the price point. They make some killer ice fishing gear that is really sought after in my area so I hope the Gander I work at gets some open water rods in.

How would you rate the Omen's sensitivity in comparison to other rods? I'm interested in picking one up to toy around with. And that is a FINE looking set-up =D>

The Omen rods are nice for the money. Gander had both the Envy and Omen rods for those that want to handle them in person.

This is extremely hard to answer...sensitivity is based truly on personal opinion...I can give you my assessment based of my experiences.

It feels very crisp. IMO it is "more sensitive" then the St. Croix Mojo series, the Abu Veritas, Carrot stix, basically everything in the $100 price point. I would honestly put it up against rods that cost twice as much...such as Phenix Recon, or Dobyns Champion. It really reminds me of the Recon very much. It feels almost identical to it, with the same action and everything. I would consider the "Medium" power to be right on as far as its rating is concerned. From my experience, the Mojo series has a wacky power rating system and it seems the MH powered rods are almost XH. Its hard to pass over this rod for $100. The 6'7" is the only 13 Omen ive used, but I posted this picture on my facebook page and one friend says "the flippin rod easily stands up with my st. croix $250 rod".

Again this is all based on opinions not facts, and for the record...I am not endorsed by 13 fishing or any other rod company for that matter.

no the knobs can be removed and replaced if you wish. I actually kinda like the knobs. They are nice and beefy.

Not riveted. Daiwa Lexa 100 with corks. Added bb in place of bushings. Image

Nice, this may have to be my alternative to trying to cobble together a low gear LH T3. Or maybe it will end up being a gear donor. :-k In any case I'm going to go pester the wife. Really Babe, I neeeeeeed it.

Thanks Daniel

I have to agree with the opinion on the Omen 13 rods. I got one for Pam for Christmas and it is hard to tell its a low $ rod. She was running her Zonda Hedgehog on it until I got her a MB Pagani Therese for Valentines day.
