Are we all poor?

Post by LowRange » Tue May 16, 2023 3:52 pm

Show and tell is dead. I'm making more money then ever but the cost of living has eaten that away. There is also that "impending financial doom" feeling I can't shake making me extra fugal. I did force myself to buy a Zillion HD this year. There's that. It's part of my punch and jig hook swimbait rig to compliment my big trebble hook bait rig.

I'm not exactly poor but I ain't rich either. I've bought plenty of fishing stuff last year and this year but I drew the line at buying an old Ambassadeur 1500C. A really nice one with the box and paperwork will cost an arm and a leg so I am not buying one. I only wanted a single really nice basic silver Ambassadeur to compliment a Tenryu trout rod with a silver reel seat that I bought and I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. I couldn't spend 4 or $500 or more on a reel and then put that much or more back into it so I went an entirely different direction and I am happy that I did. I have started buying old Shimano Bantams. \:D/
To me, they look great and Avail is making spools and some other parts for them and they are very affordable. :D
I will be getting me a couple more of the silver Bantam 100's and I am going to start building up a Mountain Stream trout rod lineup for bass and panfish fishing in Florida.

I have ventured into fly fishing. Big mistake. Now, 7 fly rods later, all the new offerings from Shimano and Daiwa seem relatively inexpensive.

Search eBay for Shimano Bantam 201. There may be more left-handed models but that's what I've been able to come up with so far that I think you can buy an Avail spool for. You can either check out the Avail or the Hedghog Studio website for more info. You want to make sure that the 201 you are looking at is a centrifugal brake version. If it's centrifugal brakes, it will have a smooth palm side side plate as opposed to having a magnetic dial on the side plate.
If you check out Hedghog's website, these parts are in the Bantam/BB Series of reels.

Here is what Shimano said about the Bantam 200.
