Skip casting reels.

Post by Ripley » Sat Sep 12, 2020 2:13 pm

Hi all,
I am in Australia, and like fishing for saltwater estuary fish with baitcasters and hard bodies.

Over the years I have collected a nice selection of round reels which I prefer.

Now, it appears the technique to use is skipping plastics under overhanging branches etc.

Everyone seems to use low profiles for this technique, but rather than have to carry another rod or accept my high end
reels are obsolete can anyone tell me if they use round reels for skip casting.

If you like round reels I would try a Calcutta DC. Quite a few recommend the other DC reels for skipping. I guess if you are good, I'm not, you can skip with anything.

I had my first practice yesterday.

Verdict:

Luna 100/ Ryoga 1016. Possible.

Lexa 300 first version. Possible.

Team Diawa 153hst. Pick of the bunch.

Fuego ct100. Very good for lighter work.

At this stage, it would depend on species and if every cast was to
be skipped.

And of course, your ability. (I am a beginner).

I will say the low profile market is overwhelming in terms of choices.
