Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
If this inductor is sitting tightly on the spool shaft, you might be able to fix it with some purple loctite, which can easily be removed if needed.

Looks like they have bfs spools for the 19 antares as well

I want to put the Ray's fixed inductor on an original rays Alphas spool.
Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
sv style braked Ray's spool? If you remove spring from it it should perform like fixed...Because ramp launches inductor out and momentum of braking should keep it out...Only if you twist reel by 90 deg, cranking side towards earth, gravity might pull inductor in in the very end of cast...
Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
If I am going through all that work then I am taking the inductor off to use on an over braked SV spool and putting a fixed inductor on. If I want to be lazy I can super glue the SV ramp all the wall out without taking the thing apart. I did this a few years ago with a wild rays spool I had in an SS SV. Did the trick. It's still fixed inductor to this day.jvelth74 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 6:58 amsv style braked Ray's spool? 4.25 gram Alde BFS spool. It comes with a short shaft like a Daiwa spool. The weight is without the half shaft. I have a Tatula SV spool from the same brand that is super light weight. It's not Amo quality but mine was $33. This thing is $57.

Weird plastic spools from SDS Customs on Ebay. 5.3 gram deep fixed inductor and 4.7 gram shallow fixed inductor. Very homemade appearance. Weight is with the bearing.
$60.
$60.

Have two - 34 and 28mm. Have only used the 34mm in a T3 and it was wild, uncontrolled. So far “no”

Got the Ray's Tatula 200 spool in. Intitialy this struck me as incredibly stupid to make a shallow spool for an HD reel but at one point I was going to put together a budget punching and swimbait setup and the idea of being able to use 20# bug game on the Tatula 200 spool and 65# braid on a separate shallow spool was appealing. I ended up going the high end route with Zillion HD with two spools on. Valkaryie 76XXH and got a 153 spool and HD spool for my Tatula HD Custom. I might pick up a US Tatula 200 at some point and use the spool as a braid spool.
The inductor is not tapered like normal Ray's spools and the spool construction is thicker like the Long Cast spools. They are a little too shallow for bombing frogs on 50# braid unfortunately. These are more of a pitching and punching spool or maybe some sort of offshore light PE use spool for the Coastal 200 guys. That is a 153 spool for reference. These are 36 mm spools.

Forgive what may be dumb question, but do you carry spare spools with different line sizes and types? I ask because I did that years ago, before braid with a fluoro leader became a thing.
Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
I was going to get a Tatula 200 and use 20# Big Game on the deep spool and punch and flip with 65# braid on the shallow spool. A Tatula 200 spool full of mono or flouro weighs a ton and has awful casting performance with anything less than an ounce. Use the big spool for swimbaits and the shallow spool for pitching all on the same rod in the same outing. In the case of the Tatula 153 spool and 200 spool the 153 Magforce Z spool is for bombing frogs with braid and the 200 fixed inductor for big baits.mark poulson wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 10:52 amForgive what may be dumb question, but do you carry spare spools with different line sizes and types? This way there is no compromises and if I want to throw rats on 20# BG then go drop in a different spool with a more distance oriented braking profile to bomb frogs or punch with braid I can. This is even better if this is a kayak outing and a rod and reel can pull double duty as both a swimbait stick and punching stick.
Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
This is my 200 spool I have on the way for my HD. Full of line these weigh a lot and have pretty aggressive braking profiles which is great for stiff high memory line and big clumsy bait. Compact baits that fly well when paired to braid perform much better with a Magforce Z spool.

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
Did I remember wrong, but as I remember, Tatula 200 HD std. spool is similar to that, despite of colour? I didn't want to take line off from mine, but I took a shot from drawing:
Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
Yes. They also go by the name of HD 150 as well. This is confusing to US anglers because in 2019 Daiwa relaunched the old Tatula 100 from 2014 as new for 2019 Tatula 150 and the old Tatula HD 150 as the new Tatula 200. My black reel is an old HD 150 and I have a 153 spool in it. For the 36 mm wide spool tatulas you have spool options of
Tatula HD 200 (black)
Tatula HD 150 (silver, red or gold)
Prorex A (purple)
Coastal 200 (blue)
Fuego HD (also red)
Tatula HD 153 (black Magforce Z)
16 HRF (black Magforce Z)
200 Ray's spool (black or red Air Brake)
