Lightest and least viscous bearing oil for BFS reels?

Post by Shadowcaster1969 » Mon Oct 18, 2021 3:59 am

I'm still out on the hunt for the lightest bearing oil for my BFS reels, which are mainly Abu super-tuned 2500C and 1500C with ZPI ceramic bearings. Thus far I've tried Shimano BFS Oil, ZPI F-0 Nano Oil, Smith IOS-01 and ZX1. They all works ok, some are lighter than others, while the trade-off is usually on durability before I need to strip down the reel to re-lubricate.

Is there any other recommendations on even lighter and lover viscosity oil out there in the market that you would recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if it is the lightest but, I use Hedgehog Alchemy Oil.

Mobil Velocite ISO 10 is about the lowest viscosity I have seen. It's also made in a super thin ISO 2 viscosity. A friend of mine works at a local machine shop and gets it for me from work, otherwise you have to buy a 55 gallon drum. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if a lot of these companies repackage that stuff and sell it as BFS oil. Super Lube also makes a ISO 10 oil that works well.

Abu Red label Rocket Oil has been my choise. It's thin, but I don't have done any comparisons.

Thanks for the feedback. I Googled your recommendations and found most except REM oil and the Mobil Oil, may I know where can REM oil be bought please?

As for the Mobile oil I don't think I'll need 55 gallons of it.

May have to look on ebay for REM oil its hard to come by right now. Its usually just $2 a bottle but going for $7-$10 now.

There is also a product called TSI 321 that people use but I have no experience with it just use REM oil.

You might also want to try the Deuthlon cast lube. I've used TSI and the HH Alchemy ultra light before and this one outperforms both in terms of casting performance. In terms of corrosion protection and longevity, I cannot tell. I've been using for less than a month and have been fishing in fresh clean water.

I switched to Glitch Japan, high quality product.
Some Japanese Pro use this oil too.

Surprisingly, nobody knows about it on this forum.
Green and red are ultra low viscosity.

Just got my hands on some Deuthlon Cast Lube. This stuff seems lighter than most lube I've tried. Going to try this out over the next couple of days...

Thanks again for the reference!

This stuff is seriously awesome. A drop on a hard surface and it spreads instantly. I'm going to get some of the No. 3 here next week when I swing by my friend's shop. I'm really loving the No. 6 so far, but in TT fashion, gotta try an even lower viscosity. I know a few reel shops overseas sell it in smaller quantities but it's very expensive to ship. I typically don't buy lubricants from places or brands that don't list their specs or MSDS. At that point it's all marketing horse-pucky with no hard data to back up their claims. A truly good manufacturer will have the hard data to back up their product.
