How do you secure loose line on the spool?
How do you secure loose line on the spool?
Not referring to backing - but with straight fluoro/mono, after fishing or for storage...do you tape the line to the spool?
If so, what tape should I use that doesn't leave a residue?
With braid I just reel the loose line in, but would rather keep things tight with straight fluoro/mono.
Thanks!

I don't and then wonder why I end up with a line caught under other line after I have already threaded the rod and have a bait tied on.

narrow strip of painter's tape works for me.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

I tie a loop knot at the end of the line and loop over either the cast control knob or reel foot.

^^^ I use loops as well, always in the boat, but Rapid Fishing Solutions Line Clip indoors. Little tricky until you figure right feel though, no need to cinch line all the way through the crease, rather just enough to hold firm is all. You'll go too far and not far enough before you figure it but otherwise they're simple.
I'm largely brand driven with lots of sticks that look similar, with several duplicates as well, and sometimes color coordinate these clips by either intended technique or line selection so I can actually find my sticks on the racks. Of course, if you store in rod socks this won't work. But I find it easier to not use socks indoors, reel covers yes, but not socks because I was always lifting the socks to figure what stick was in them. But with no socks and colored clips standing on each tip I go right to or near what I'm looking for in seconds. There is a limit to the madness, only so many colors, but for me it's a time saver. Too expensive for what they are but what else is new? Nothing wrong with a good old fashion loop, just another option is all.

If I want it on the spool, then painter's tape. Otherwise I loop knot and loop onto the reel foot. Then if I want to really prep it, I thread a bead or button and tie it up.
slip bobbing is the laziest way to fish

X2.
However, I have invested in some ValleyHill rubber stoppers that I like (and may end up using)…

Also, if the reel is already on a rod, I make a loop and attach it to the drag star.

Thanks guys - painter's tape it is for when I want to remove spool/play with the reel at my desk.
