Best cheap spool pin remover

Post by SSS » Fri Dec 31, 2021 11:27 am

Looking to grab a new spool pin remover since my Ray's Studio one finally broke. Does anyone has a suggesting on a cheap but good spool pin remover?

Aside from the Hedgehog offerings, I think most everything on ebay is about the same for the most part.

I still have and like my Boca parallel jaw spool pin pliers.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

The newest Roro spool pin remover is awesome...and inexpensive. Works very well and has both the blunt and pointed tips on the same fixed handle.

Doesn't scratch spools either.

Is it the one for $35 or something? Kinda expensive, wanted something cheaper. I saw Gomexus has one with stainless steel threading, and is like $16.

Meh these look identical to the cheap no name pin removers sold for under $10 on ali. The threading is very weak. You remove a few tight pins, and its over for the pin remover. Their newer model based on the SLP Works one looks stronger/better.

Might as well break down and get the SLP pin remover. Mine has been going strong for a couple of years, and that's under pretty regular use as I run a shop. I have yet to use the spare guide pin that came with it. There are also the Reelspeed pliers, if you can find them as I don't believe Aaron makes them any longer. Dawn over at Smooth Drag may have a few left if you want to shoot her an email. I have a set and they work for everything with the exception of some Daiwa models with the free floating spool.

Certainly don't want the pliers. These ruin the magnesium shaft on the rc001/002 spools.

Kinda wondering if somebody has another option, but if not, the slp pin remover would be the smart choice, but the gomexus one does look solid, and i do love their handles.

The pliers wouldn't work on that spool anyway, not enough shaft there for the pliers to grip. I would just get the SLP. If you shop around you can find it for under $40.

This Basszone one has done well by me. Can be found on fleabay for under $15.00

A touch of light grease on the threads will go a long way towards keeping them in good shape. Friction kills
