How to get brake shoes for 20 Metanium
How to get brake shoes for 20 Metanium
I just got a Rays BFS spool for my 20 Metanium. I have to move brake shoes from the stock spool to the Rays spool. Rather than switching them back and forth, and probably loosing the shoe or the metal pin, is there some way to get 4 shoes and pins so I can mount them once and not have to switch them out?

Watching, just got two spools and would like to do the same thing

They are not being sold separately…
I just took two off of a random svs reel, as I run with 2 pins on all reels and only mess with the dial.
If you need 4 on all reels, the cheapest you can go is buying a replacement spool of the cheapest Shimano reel that uses these pins, whichever model this might be.

Re: How to get brake shoes for 20 Metanium
I found an old Slx spool and used the brakes from that and they seem to fit.
Re: How to get brake shoes for 20 Metanium
I am very surprised they don't sell these. Makes me more scared to tinker with the spool and turn them on and off. Wonder what the price of the cheapest spool is...
Re: How to get brake shoes for 20 Metanium
The pins that hold the brakes on the spool are not supposed to be removed. They are press fit to prevent them from coming loose. The brakes are not available as a separate item because of the way they are installed.

So what are the options when they wear out or break? Kind of strange to use a non-servicable wearable part. Brian.
Are you fishing or aimlessly casting around?
Re: How to get brake shoes for 20 Metanium
I have yet to see one of these brakes wear out. Due to the design and shape, it would take a long, long time for one to wear out.
