Curado 70 gear swap

Post by Just_Bass » Wed Oct 12, 2022 11:58 am

My Curado 71 gets very geary feel so I decide to get new gear set. I assumed the 71 K MGL gear set would fit regular 70 from using the same frame. Apparently it is not, The mgl MM gear fit perfectly but seem to have more resistance when reeling. I can’t imagine what cause them to not be swap able. Both gear seem to have same diameter and thickness. Have anyone try it? I’ve heard a lot of ppl swap gear with Engetsu successfully but why not MGL.

A 70 is a RH reel a 71 a LH. I don't believe they take the same gear sets. Brian.
Are you fishing or aimlessly casting around?

The MGL gears will not work in the regular 70. The reels have different tooling and spools. This means the pin location for the spool is different and also how the gears fit and align inside the reel. You just need to order the correct set of gears for your reel.
We made the 71 in HG and XG gear ratios. So make sure you order the correct set for your reel.

Thanks will do that. I was afraid the new same gear will get buzzing again, why I tried MM gear.

Gears wear from use and reels need service. Many times a simple clean and grease with our ACE2 grease will eliminate any issues.

I did a gear swap this summer. My 71MGL became buzzy after about three trips, so I ordered and installed the regular 71 gears. Fished the reel a few times and it is still very smooth. Not a fan of micro gears.

That is suck. I’m not even sure if I want to spend 30 bucks for new gear and know it is gonna go bad again.
Ppl say maintenance to prevent it, but I service mine regularly and it is happened with too many old or new.
