Zillion TW HD
Morning.
Does anybody have any experience with the reel tossing baits up to the 6oz mark with it? I was really looking into getting a Z2020 black limited but the paint issue kind of scares me a little specially on a $450+ reel.
The rod it’s going to go in is a LDC 8’ XH 3-8oz running 20lbs fluoro. Bait wise 6” ufo wake, Pb rat, Klash 9, WCZ citizen 7, battles shad 7.5 and hawghunter magnum with the trout stocks are going. I like to keep things simple and on take one rod that does a ton of stuff.
Thanks

I think Zander uses one for big baits... when I initially read your post, my only concern was line capacity - this is my only concern whenever considering a reel for tossing big baits - but according to the spec, it seems this reel has plenty. Realizing that, jogged my memory that I'm pretty sure Zander uses one on a semi-regular basis.

Re: Zillion TW HD
I like the idea of a more compact reel for bigger baits specially with the physical weight of the rods being lighter. The zillion I’m referring to is the current HD 1520. I didn’t think it had enough line capacity but I do see people using the Ryoga 1520 for big baits. The Tatula 300 did catch my eye but I’m addicted and I like the refinements of the higher end gear.

Yes, I use the Ryoga 1520 CC all the time but I run braid + leader on all my setups so I can squeeze a bit more line on there

I have a Daiwa Catalina TW with a Zillion HD spool in it. I have thrown a Deps 250 and Wild Beat on it without issue. I have 20lb CXX on it, no issues with line capacity.
Re: Zillion TW HD
I love the Zillion TW HD but I with what you are tossing on a regular I would be into the Tatula 300 TW and not look back. Both platforms are t*ties! Zillion HDs are on my lighter SB rods the White Pythons while the heavier duty Tatula 300s are on the Valkyrie WE models and SBSD which are generally utilized for slinging the 8" Bullshad and 7" Bullgill Bucca model SBs.
Re: Zillion TW HD
I own one and throw 20# big game with big m 4.0s that come in at 2.oz and those can nearly spool the HD. A tat 300 is probably a better bet. The HD is awesome though. I use mine along with a Catalina TW spool for bombing big frogs on 65# braid really far and then drop in the stock fixed inductor and 20# BG for 2 to 3 oz baits. It's a great match for the Hyuga 72H. I've committed of a Z200 but for a future 3/4 to 6 oz stick for punching and big baits with 65 to 80 # braid bit am a little concerned about line capacity. The Z only holds maybe 20 yards more than the Catalina TW spool which already makes all the 65# go away with a plopper 130 or Zoom hollow body. Maybe I'll use Samurai braid.
Re: Zillion TW HD
Dang I don't think I've ever ever come close to spooling my zillion HDs, but I'm only running 50 lb braid so I can get a lot of line capacity on there
Re: Zillion TW HD
Plus if you really want to capacity you could go down to 40 pound and still get away with tossing up to 2.5 maybe up to 3 oz baits if you chose to do so but that's just in my experience oh and my braid is a little bit thicker diameter I believe then Samurai I run power pro on all my rigs
Re: Zillion TW HD
Course line capacity can be subjective as well
Re: Zillion TW HD
That bait is a just a giant megabass crank. It has massive weight transfer ball and everything. 1st cast with one took 50% of the line off and burned my thumb tip and the spool only stopped when I lost it in a tree at the top of a tall tree. That bait was flying. It would have kept going and taken another 25% off of the line easily. With normal fixed weight baits I have thrown in the near 2oz range that just sort of lob out there I struggle to even get 50% depletion of the spool with 20# BG. I haven't thrown true big baits yet and know that if my 7'2" Huga and 2 oz is pushing the capacity then an 8' stick and 4 oz bait is going to be too much rod and bait. That's actually going to be my next purchase. A Tatula 200 for 20# BG with shallow spool for punching with 65# braid and some sort of punch and big bait stick. Hopefully a used last gen Levante Leviathan.

Re: Zillion TW HD
Also the same reel with a Catalina TW spool and 65# braid on the same Hyuga 72H will almost spool with an 11/16 oz Terminator Walking Frog and will spool with a 7/8 oz Zoom Hollow Belly and 3/4 oz Plopper 110. Full spool no backer done from a seated position in a kayak. Catalina TW spool is no joke with braid and compact heavy baits. Way too fast for big non braid and clumsy big baits. That's where that stock spool comes back in. That little Hyuga is a champ too.
