Stoked on this procurement! Finally got something from Roman Made. Always wanted a Negotiator and awhile back this(being the South) almost made it into my growing bait arsenal, but the plan was to to drill and fill to make it a slow sinker, but that never came to fruition :P

Okay so for me the weather I belive is just about right for regular trips for me, basically took the winter off after losing my Hiro Shad but for those who keep track I have long since gotten over with quite a few recent procurements.

Bring me to the Roman made South "Red Thunder Cracker". I am sure much has been stated over this particular bait but my few notes are as follows definitely topwater oriented bait with my feather dressed hooks. has a nice little Wag once it gets started into its action although sometimes it's hard to find but once you do get it going definitely has a nice top water presentation looks like I can get it to do 360 stop and pause type of retrieves if you snap it and pause and retrieve if you can get it to pop or click for some nice audible action. Likes to be slow crawl. Seems to wash out at high speeds but I don't believe that's what this bait was intended to do nor would I wish to you has this definitely feels like a slow plotting type of lure, picking apart submerged weed lines, shorelines, in between sureface cover that sort of thing in between trees under Docs if you're so inclined to skip it I don't get opportunities for that so I can't really speak on that. I feel pretty versatile for the slower presenter. I think you can do quite a few different things with this This thing is pretty tiny and compact so I believe you could get some good distance on it if you're in a boat or on the shore. I may pick other on of these up :-k Craftsmanship is pretty spot-on especially for a wood bait this thing is clean, like super clean, no area of construction was sloppy at least on this specimen!! Sick finish! pictures definitely don't do the bait Justice in that regard

This water shot looked neat, the back seems to have more of a color shifting spray done, more red appears more in the sun exposure than darker greens and blacks from the previous indoor pictures. big grin:

Got out today for a bit.
A guy I know caught a 10 and a 9lb bass amongst smaller fish.
I chucked and wind but I had no such success. I know it’s a process and I’m up for the challenge, I just want to catch something 😂

How does the addition of the feathers and other stuff entice the fish since to me it seems unnatural??

Goldie at this point I think it is all in my head theory wise  truth be told it is just something I enjoy(dressing treble hooks) as far as inticing fish I am sure that is just a coin flip. I don't have a whole lot of proof as I it's been a long while since I've caught a swim Bait fish but then again I haven't been out for a couple months or so since I lost my last one.

Although I have learned that certain baits particularly the Glide seems to be a little more sensitive to how you dress feathers as I found sometimes it can cause drag and actually alter the way the bait fishes sometimes during a retrieve or not depending on a baits over all design. This is a good thing sometimes not.

Although I don't have many fish to show I think last check I've only gotten one specific swimbait specimen, but I have lots of time logged. Any other questions feel free to ask although there are way more folks doing this and I am sure have alot more angles to add to this game than I.

I feel like I'm actually just getting to the point on knowing when to throw what and when to hopefully increase my chances but I've often found in my own experience it's all really about how all the dominoes fall especially when most of my fishing as either for my kayak or Shore. I don't get to run and Gun like a lot of folks can in a boat especially on deep and open reservoirs like we have here.

One thing I will say is that visually feather look amazing and add tons of action on most baits in the water and I have mentioned briefly in the past I also feel it gives a bait some tactile element for the mouth when a fish decides to sniff or outright inhale ;)

Your work is extremely impressive and I like it..follow your passion is what they always said and looking at your work and the attention to detail I can tell you really enjoy doing it.. Maybe I'll seen some trebles your way..lol
You mentioned when to throw what and thats exactly where I am.. I was wonderering just today when I made it in what do you big swimbait guys do for a cold front.

Goldie, big thanks what an acknowledgement 8-) perhaps that could be in the future haven't really put my work out there obviously. I was toying with the idea of developing my own bait line but we'll see I feel it's pretty diluted Market and plus I don't do social media generally for much of anything like I stated before probably this is the only place I hang out and digitally along with SoundCloud. But if I ever did I would have surrendered to the fact I would have probably have to have something like that in order to promote myself and my products or what have you

As far as what to throw honestly a lot of the times I take Winters off I don't generally get on it back onto the water till right about now actually and to be honest I still throw swimmers that being segmented style, just fish them slow. My rule of thumb and I'm sure it's been also stated a s*** ton is fish it slower if you think you're going slow go even slower that is if you're bait is suited for slow retrieves. I think it was about the first week of March for me a couple years ago probably now that I stuck a good-sized one if I remember it was 5.5 and got that on swimming the six inch bull Shad very slow. Also a thing of note for me personally Glides don't get the greatest distance so with my type of reservoirs I need to focus more deep and I feel like segmented swimmers allow me to get down a little faster and get to depth but still have the ability to be fished very slow, they undulate more while a glide is great for super slow more deliberate type of action or quicker TW orientation. I'm sure a lot of guys on here have the patience to sit in countdown a Glide as well as potentially better suited gear for launching a Glide. Since I haven't had the greatest luck I just tend to stick to what I like to throw most often and that's the segmented stuff if I'm fishing depths and every so often when I do get out to throw Glides but that's if me personally I'm wanting to try to be a little further up in the water column in my situation it would be chasing Shad balls and I say that with a smile as I don't necessarily chase them in a kayak but if I time it right in the hit the area where I think action is going on I'll throw Glides into the boils of fish that are feeding.

Again my luck is for s*** and take all of my notes for a grain of salt that's just my experience :P

Absolutely stoked on this pheasant skin. Bless the bird that this is from [-o<

The assortment and colors on these feathers is stunning. Pictures of course do not do this patch justice. The iridescent copper really is amazing, but hard to see here. I should be able to really add some flare to my crazy feathering addiction :P

Big shout out to Fly Fish Food! Lately I been hitting them up lots, like a Crack head to a corner. A fly angler's dream and SB fiend if you are like me and want to feather everything with trebles.

Also please check these cats out. They are real artists!!

Also got a small package of assorted Peacock plumes 8-)

Okay so my latest bait run is nuts. Makes me feel like when I was younger blowing cash trying to buy a dance from every fine stripper is the house. Funny how times change  okay that is my share for today 8-)

I was hoping to start a run with yesterday being the first time in a yak this year, and hit up some familiar area. Caught some peace of mind and then late last night I heard the brief storm rolled in. I was laughing as I didn't realize I hit on the day right before a storm came through. Spent a couple hours or so slinging the 8 in Bull shad :big grin: still a bit chilly in the morning but warms up nicely. Anyway the storm looks like it blew through todsy so hopefully I can get back out

Sticking to the single jointed style, I found some NOS of these. Wood style 8-) just like it's similar bait in the Roman made it's a nice little freestyle topwater oriented bait you can walk the dog with it you can pop it stop and go and have a kick out to either side depending on how your cadences I couldn't resist the purple in this thing so you know what's going to happen next :P

Side note after getting some more time in with the Roman made south I find it to be slightly disappointing in the fact that if you don't catch the Cadence correctly during your retrieve it tends to not do anything if that makes sense it's like dragging piece of wood with no action at all which is strange as it's a single joint it should have a lot more movement my guess it has to do with something with the way they hooks are set up especially if they're feathered.......... but even when I put stock hooks on it still wants to stay straight with no action sometimes at more aggressive reel speed. To get it moving correctly again I have to pause and start back up to find the Cadence again to get it moving the way it should

I just wanted to point that out it's kind of a finicky little bait and like I stated earlier it's more of a kind of spot thrower fiddle around on the spot and get out throw to a new spot fiddle around get out so on and so forth Just because if you just want a straight retrieve on this you're not going to get much action out of it if at all at higher speeds
. you have to really work the tip and the Cadence on your retrieve. But now that I know that it's very much a specific kind of bait for me which is not a big deal obviously I like collecting them up

I also bring this up as the shellcracker swims/action quite a bit more effortlessly and I want to say that may have to do with the type of over all bait set up. this shellcracker is nice and has a nice little tail slap to get the water disturbance going, obviously the Roman made South does not have a tail which I think would probably Aid in better swimming attributes at higher speeds( if I'm not mistaken I think some of the earlier South's were set up similarly with the hardware and the tail that are like more typical baits if this type)

Alright that's my share for the day :big grin:
