I think this is a better way to fish docks and wanted to know your thoughts and get some assistance in fishing this particular bait.
Gan Craft makes a stick specifically for the JC 178. Ideally, get your hands on one of these sticks, or find one with a similar specification: Gan Craft Dead Sword KG-00 6-710EXH

Then, a reel with a 7 or 8 to one retrieve ratio. You want a reel that can pick up slack quickly.

Your line of choice...

Then, just mix up the retrieves. I fish these baits on a steady retrieve to get the bait swimming side to side, but a lot of guys fish them like jerkbaits. Others will do several quick spins of the handle then stop getting the bait to swim off to one side. If you can predict the glide so that the bait swims under, or almost under the dock, even better.

With a short, stout stick like the Dead Sword, all this is very easy near cover.

There’s not many sticks out there that line up to the 3 oz rating in a 7’1” package and honestly I’m really considering this stick tonight. It will be easier to make up for it on Monday. Anyone else with this rod ?

There aren’t many available In the USD market… it is a popular spec in the JDM… just check out the Enthusiast review tab on the main site ;)

Cal,

Last question... The black Rose
You did a review on that rod as well and to me the stick are very similar even price wise.. so my last questions are.
Which of the two rods do you feel is the most versatile ( i read that the Rose is specifically designed for versatility and the GC for the Swimbait 178) , sensitive , has the better of the two ergonomically speaking and if you could have only one of the two, which and why..

Sorry to bother but I've read both reviews and i'm still betwixt and between..
I like the looks of the Rose but I also like the looks of the gan craft. the only difference is i can get a GC with a one year warranty
now here's something that is an negative as far as the Gan Craft, you mentioned that the balance was off. Can you expound on that point?

The Black Rose feels better in hand... I caught more fish with the Dead Sword using similar techniques for both.

So the swimbait just wasnt getting it done on the st. johns but this evoke Zero did..

awesome bite and I have to say I thought this stick was like my Megabass power versatile but its not..
I actually prefer it over the power versatile.

Thanks Cal for the suggestion.. this bite was epic

Thanks brother
That swimbait stuff just wasn’t happening but that evoke zero gets bit.
They went crazy. Pictures don’t do justice.

I have to say if you have a power versatile rod you maybe seeing a killer replacement ( ha ha. See what I did there , that was a killer joke. Ha. Just did it again. I kill myself laughing. Ops not again 😂)

Great Job with the Evoke Zero Goldrod! That color looks killer too.

Don't give up on the swimbaits, every bait has its day. That floating 178 can easily be manipulated to float, sink or almost suspend with a little work with lead tape, wire, hook change, etc. That's why I prefer the floating versions, it gives you more options.
