Surf fishing:TH or single?

Post by gobears » Mon Apr 25, 2011 6:21 am

Thinking about getting started using a fly rod in the surf and wanted your opinions about using a TH/spey rod vs. a single??

Realize this can be an ongoing debate, I intend to use in the Pacific Ocean along the San Francisco coast for stripers.

I used 9ft 9wt & 10wt rods for many years in the salt.

When I discovered the 11ft & 12ft two handed rods,,,,,,,I never looked back.

Much easier to cast longer distances and less tiring for all day fishing.

The low priced TFO 12ft for 12wt is excellent, I also have the Loomis 11'3" in 9/10 and 11/12wt.

Rio Outbound lines and very smooth relaxed casting.

FK

thanks for sharing, was it difficult making the transition to spey casting or are you using a switch rod?
