The most important setup-your truck and rig

Post by russ57 » Tue Apr 28, 2020 8:44 am

What truck/boat combo are you guys rocking with, and how much did it cost? Also, how old are you?

It's cool to post combos and stuff but without a way to really explore water it seems kinda pointless sometimes, honestly.

What boat and truck combos do you guys have?

no pics, but i have a 2015 nissan titan sv 4x4, and a 2013 tracker pt175tf. the boat isn't exactly what i want, but a good friend sold it to me a couple of years ago at an incredible price when he got a new ranger rt198p.

i feel very blessed to have what i have though. i went through 5 years that i couldn't even afford to fish. i sold my previous boat, and any rod/reels that were worth anything. within 12 months, my business, finances, and marriage ended. it was a rough period. it took a while before i found a decent job where i could get back to it. the job i had before this was pretty close to poverty level wages.

No pics but I have a 2006 Bass Cat Puma (20'5") and I pull it with a 2018 F150 3.5L Ecoboost. I purchased the boat new for $47K and the truck new for $53K. It's my dream setup and I'm lucky to have it. I'm 49 and married but have no kids so plenty of money to spend on toys.

I don’t have a boat or a truck, but this is my rig that I fish from. It’s a Native Watercraft Slayer 12XC. It’s a paddle kayak and not a peddle driven unit. I’ve upgraded it with a landing gear, power pole micro, and a humminbird depth finder. Behind it is my car I use to haul it to different locations. This picture was taken yesterday at ReelFoot lake in TN.

I have no boat, sadly. I sold my boat and kayak a few years back. All the places I fish already have a boat sitting on the bank. I only have to take my trolling motor and battery. I do love my Xterra, though.

Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

That's a nice Gen 1 you have there. Still going strong? I'm running a 2010 Off Road and just hit 67k yesterday. I'll be driving that thing for another 10 yrs I hope.

Its a 2004 SE Supercharged. I'm at 178K and counting, still going strong! My last one was a 2003. It had 192K when I totaled it out and still ran OK.

my previous vehicle was a 08, but it wasn't 4x4. i've been looking for a 4x4, but they want some stupid prices for them.

i ended up having transmission problems with the 08, and started searching online about. it seemed to be a problem with the transmission cooler and was pretty common.

Yep. They call it SMOD meaning "strawberry milkshake of death". The radiator cracks and leaks coolant into the transmission fluid and destroys the transmission. Only applies to automatic transmissions. All Gen 2 Xterras have the faulty radiator from 2005 to early 2010. At some point in 2010 they finally went to a radiator that doesn't have the issue. So basically anything from 2005-2010 make sure you swap out the radiator. From 2011-2015 you're good to go.
