Ice Fishing

Post by BRONZEBACK32 » Mon Oct 26, 2020 10:46 pm

Anyone getting excited for ice fishing???

I get burned out fishing rivers and lakes towards fall, so when it starts getting cold I start getting ready for hard water.

But I also get burned out towards the end of winter with Ice fishing, its a vicious cycle :big grin:

I used to be young and daring...two inches of ice was enough. :big grin:

I'm a bit more reserved now. I wait for solid 4 inches before I actually start walking out on the ice.

I'm the same.

I went out last year on 2" of ice and could here it cracking with each step, it was unpleasant haha.

I will wait until there is 4" also.

I'm definitely looking forward to the hard water season. \:D/

Has anyone tried the IFISH PRO 2.0 TIP UP yet?

Last season was my first try at ice fishing. Unfortunetely, my area did not see much ice so it was very limited.
Still enjoyed it crap ton and I hope this year will be better.
While on topic, what fish finder you guys use?

I haven't used one but have seen them at my local Cabela's, might have to snag one.

I used a Helix 7 off my boat for the last couple of years, I used a ammo case and ram mount and it worked excellent
but was a bit bulky.
I sold the Helix 7 this year and picked up to Helix 9's, I was planning on using one of them for ice but they are
super heavy with the metal gimbal, ended up picking up a Helix 5 ice and was super impressed on how nice the
bag and total setup is.

Same here. I always have at least one tip up in my spread with a large oily dead smelt on, or near, the bottom. I'd like to give this model a go for that presentation...chances are if a pike hits it it'll be a nice one, and I'd like to bring it in with a rod as opposed to hand-to-hand combat.

Lake St Clair should be really good this year. Caught a lot of jumbos during summer in the shallows, November is when the shore action really gets going. We typically don't have good ice until late December or early January, but I'll be out there jigging once it is.
