Carrying duplicate baits
Carrying duplicate baits
Do you carry duplicate baits with you on the water in case you lose one?
Re: Carrying duplicate baits
Does a bear....
I'm notoriously psychotic. I can't buy a lure. I always buy 2 and bring 2. Why I don't fish Megabass or expensive swimbaits.

I don’t carry them with me, although something happened that made me think about it. Sometimes I buy multiples of 3, 4, 5, one time even 6! Obviously, that’s if they are productive baits.
Re: Carrying duplicate baits
Is that a question for boat or for bank anglers? Because for bank angles “in case you lose one” doesn’t exist. It’s a certainty And of course you bring at least one more.

Re: Carrying duplicate baits
Have you ever bought 2 lures exactly the same and one works like a magnet while the other is absolutely shunned...
I follow this mantra but have experienced the above.

Yes I always order 2 at least. And I always carry 2 or more. I have never had an issue when a duplicate didnt work. Unless it was thrown on a different line lure or rod setup.
Re: Carrying duplicate baits
Yes, but typically I carry only 1 duplicate bait with me.
For Rainbow trout I have one that good bait which I feel I need a duplicate for sure.
For Seatrout I have one that good bait which I feel I need a duplicate for sure.
For Pike I have one that good bait which I feel I need a duplicate for sure.
For Perch I haven't found that good lure that absolutely needs a duplicate

Re: Carrying duplicate baits
I do my best to have three of whatever lure I need. It's been pretty difficult with a lot of baits during the pandemic. I lost a $100 rare hard swimbait last week in a golf course pond on a rope tied to an aerator. I went swimming and found the rope filled with baits. I picked off the ones that I wanted, but mine was too deep to find at night. My duplicate of that bait doesn't catch jack, and a third just isn't available.
Re: Carrying duplicate baits
I fish out of a boat so I have 5 or 6 of the same bait if they produce. I always buy any new bait in pairs.

Re: Carrying duplicate baits
5 or 6? Is that all? There are days I lose 3 within two hours. Messes with me all week, or month, but worth the risk. Sort of.

When I buy a new lure to try, I generally buy at least two. Usually in different color or pattern. If there's a different size, then I usually get another two in different size as well.

Re: Carrying duplicate baits
Depends on the specific lure.
Topwater typically I carry one, unless the lure is disposable.
Crankbaits it depends on how hard it is to get a replacement. If it's hard to come by, typically I'll order two at a time.
Jerkbaits I keep a minimum of two on the boat for my good colors. It gets expensive, since most of them are 110s, but we have an inordinate amount of pickerel in Jersey who LOVE Megabass.
