Tackle sling bag

Post by Bbrotz » Tue Jun 15, 2021 2:53 pm

I’m looking to get a tackle sling pack for shore pounding. I was looking at the tackle warehouse sling pack or the pantagonia stealth atom sling. Anybody have any experience with these and care to share their thoughts? Much appreciated

Not those two, but I have been using a Fishpond Summit sling for a few years now and love it. Slings are great if you can force yourself to not over fill them.

I always overfilled my sling style bags. I went to a backpack about a decade ago, and it gets more full every damn year! ](*,)

Daiwa Trout bag. Not too big, not too small and carries everything I'd ever need.

I've been using the Rapala Sling Bag Pro since Xmas. Holds two 3600 boxes and has a pouch to store a Gamakatsu G-Box 318SD (for hooks, DS weights etc) plus other misc stuff. I like that it folds open into a horizontal state and creates a working surface, I can just take things out of the box without ever putting down the bag. My biggest gripe is that it doesn't have a water bottle holder, I bought a separate one for joggers. On long trips I only take one tackle box and fit a water bladder into the 2nd compartment.

Well I was pretty much set on getting the tackle warehouse bag but now I’m not so sure. All those bags look really good. I don’t carry that much tackle with me which is why I was looking at a sling pack. That and I don’t like taking a backpack off and on every time I need something out of it. On all day trips I usually carry a 3600 box, a Gamakatsu 318SD box, pliers, a scale, and a few bags of soft plastics.

That looks almost identical to the pantagonia sling pack I was looking at. Do you know if that Fishpond bag can fit a pack of 6” roboworms in the front hardshell pocket? Also I seen it had a net holder, have you tried using that? I appreciate the help.

That’s the bag that looks like a messenger bag right? It looks like it would work really good for what I’m wanting, but was wondering does it have a spot for your pliers or line cutters? Also if you don’t mind, does it have a separate compartment for a tackle box and a separate one for soft plastics? Thanks for the help guys!

Some real world pics from the other side of the world... They've been really good to me with following me everywhere, I have fabric guarded them sot hey stay clean & dry in the rain (or ever need a wipe afterwards) for the last 4 odd plus years.

Fishing a Simms headwaters and Orvis guide for fly, salt, and bass shore fishing. Guide size is great for packing for a long day and wanting a couple extra Plano boxes. I love sling packs for inshore fishing as well- lunch, lures, line, water, pliers, sunscreen, glasses are all an easy fit!

The front pocket is easily big enough for 3-4 packs of 6” robos. My net has a super short handle, so it doesn’t stay in the holder well, but a longer one would work great.

If you would like I can grab pics this weekend.

The clamshell is pretty big, Plano 3500 for reference. It can easily fit 3-4 bags of plastics. The little pockets great for small baggies of assorted TT and the pocket behind the zipper has some dividers in it as well.

Image
Image
Image
The main pocket. It just fits a Plano 3600, like you have to insert is an exact way every time. Annoying at first, but I don't even notice it now. There is room for one 3600 and one 3500 or three 3500 boxes. Two 3600 boxes will not fit.

Image
The rear pocket. It will not fit a 3600. There is good padding between it and the outside of the sling, but lumpy stuff will still dig into your back a little. I use to for leader spools and a little first aid kit.

Image
Top stash pocket. You put your weed in there. Or a power bar or whatever. Big enough for a large phone.

Image
Water bottle holder. It's not good for much more than a 12-16oz bottle.

Image
The strap attachment points. I had a pair of pliers and nippers rigged up there, it ruled and I need to replace them.

Image
The bottom attachment points. I added those webbing straps so I can secure my rain jacket or whatever.

I have had this pack for 4-5 years and love it. It's by far my most used pack and for any time I don't need more then 12-16oz of water it's my go-to. I usually keep it more kitted out but I am in the middle of reloading everything. I am building up a second fishing pack out of an Osprey Talon 11 for longer/hotter days and am trying to figure out the the ideal loadout for each.

I'm an enormous bag dork, thank you for your time.

Simms waterproof for me. Nothing for me to do 4-5 mile river wades this time of year for smallmouth. I’ve never wished I could carry more than it carries. Fits my camelback bladder as well. It’s got more miles on it than my truck tires do.

It’s secured to the back of my Jackson Big Tunas seat on floats. I like being able to hydrate while continuing to cast/read water.

Everyone’s needs are different.

I’ll have to keep that pocket in mind :laugh1:

But on a serious note, thank you guys so much for the pictures and help. It really made my decision a lot easier. I just put it an order for the fishpond summit sling. Seems perfect for what I was looking for
