What's your favorite NRX and why ?
Re: What's your favorite NRX and why ?
NRX 822 SYR, great tip and plenty backbone. I don't use spinning rods much, but for shanky heads and tudes this rod is fun.

NRX 852S - Hands down best / most versatile spinning rod I have ever used. That's why I bought 2 of them! Drop shot, shaky head, senkos, flukes, tubes, etc. Whatever you need a spinning rod for, this can cover it.
NRX 873 - Pitching jigs / Texas rigs, football jigs, Carolina rigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, frogs. Awesome stick!

I have the 893 and love it. I use it with lures up to 1/2oz and it works great. Great weightless also with senkos and skinny dipper. I have felt more with this rod than any rod I have ever used.

If I could have only one nrx, it is without question the 893. I use mine for everything from weightless 4" senkos to 3/8 t rigs and jigs.
Re: What's your favorite NRX and why ?
very old thread for sure but always a good subject. With the passing of time, the 894 is now out and widely available.
The 894 gets my vote and the rationale is simple. I can throw a light jig in Kentucky and it performs well. The same rod is fished with light presentations on Lake Okeechobee every quarter and has the power to land the fish with 3lbs of salad on her.
On the rare occasion, I structure fish in KY, it handles a 3/4oz jig like a dream. Very little this rod does not do great and it does a few things (big jigs deep and heavy florida grass) like a champ.
I would say you have departed this rods range when you start fishing FC line 14# or less, when you have a treble hook on, or when you are at 1.25 total rig weight or more. Everything else is great in my book.
My post should mention I use a .75oz counterbalance on my 894's and a 6oz HS reel with 30# braid most of the time. This combination just rocks!

is it ok to change my mind? I have a 893 873 and an 894. I love all of them but the 894 is my new favorite. That is until I get my 852s.

exactly so much of it relates to the cover and lures fished. Though I have a hard time giving any spinning rod ever my vote publically even if it was my favorite

Not sure where to start on this topic....I may possibly have the most fun with the 852c. Have three with px-r reels in them and are fun to finesse fish with. Shakey head, mojo rig and the Ned rig are the most commonly used. Just so much fun. The latest one, and I realize I'm late to the party, is the 873crr. I've been Carolina rigging with it and it's pretty great, not nearly like the glx 875 broomstick I used to use.
It's getting to be the 894 and 895 time of year so they'll be getting spooled up to go cross some eyes in that 20+' range. The ones I have the least experience with are the spinning ones. Fished the 852 a couple times and never fished the 872 but I'm sure it's sweet.

Spent the weekend fishing my 872s on Lk St Clair. In my opinion absolute perfect spinning rod for those bruiser smallmouth. So thankful I bought two this offseason on a good discount.

852 then 843 casting
852 spinning also
I love all 3 my NRX rods, not really a favorite.
But the 852 is the most do everything rod for me...

Yeah, this is a tough one. But recently received a 902s from the great people at TackleTrap and now I can honestly say this rod rules over all other NRX on my boat which consist of 893c, 843c, 853c and 822s DSR. There is not a more versatile rod in the lineup IMO from jigs, tubes, cranks, blade baits, spybaits, dropshot/finesse this 7'6" fast action has one of the best tapers for smallmouth bass I've laid hands on. Love it so much need two on my deck at all times.

I am with ya there brother. I dont even keep a spinning rod in my boat anymore. But I just picked up a Stadic Ci4, so it needs a new home. I am really hoping I can bring myself to love this combo.DavidSA wrote:johnnybassboat wrote: That is until I get my 852s.
