Drop Shot Rod
Hey guys, looking to get a dedicated drop shot rod this coming fall. Application is for a lighter rig, weights from 1/8 to 1/4, and line from 5 to 7 pound. Any recommendations? Top options I was looking at were the Orochi XX Stinger Shot, Shimano Expride 6'10" Light, and the Jackall Poison Adrena 6'6" Medium Light. Didn't rule out the Cumara or Loomis drop shot specific rods, either. Thanks in advance!
*edit*
Leaning toward the Poison Adrena mounted with a Vanquish C2000S... But still open to suggestion!

Re: Drop Shot Rod
I have both the NRX 822DSR and Dobyns DX702SF and they are both fantastic drop shot rods. I'm not sure what spending limit is.

Re: Drop Shot Rod
I have the stinger shot and use it with 1/16oz weight and a 4.5 roboworm all the time. Sometimes the alive shad or a crosstail shad. Sensitivity is great and it's a blast to fight fish on.
Re: Drop Shot Rod
I've not fished the Expride or Andrena but if that's your budget then the DX702SF has to be considered. I dropshot a ton and the 702SF must be fished in order to understand why so many, including me, love this rod for DS. The NRX is a bit outside my spending comfort zone but I imagine it's top notch also.

Ok, I've used a 703DX, and found it to be an awesome rod for worm fishing. If given the option I'd rather go with the 702 casting over the 702 spinning. Think that'll work?

Re: Drop Shot Rod
NRX822DSR if you are using that light weight.
Re: Drop Shot Rod
With 5 to 7 lb test line and light weights, the DX702SF is what you want. That rod is perfect - it's their Finesse build though I am not 100% certain whether the casting version is built the same. Maybe the DX701C would be the one? Give Dobyns Rods a phone call and talk to Richard or Gary directly.Fishinfanatic115 wrote:Ok, I've used a 703DX, and found it to be an awesome rod for worm fishing. I've been using NRX 822DSR for a few years now, it's so good that I don't even want to try any other rods for drop shot.

On their site, it says finesse on both rods, and they both carry identical ratings. I'll definitely send them an email tomorrow, though.fishindad wrote:With 5 to 7 lb test line and light weights, the DX702SF is what you want. In regards to the NRX, I'd love to get one, but i think it's a pinch outside of the price window, unfortunately.
Re: Drop Shot Rod
Remember there are two schools of thought on this moderate fast so that you don't lose so many fish and fast or extra fast for increased reaction time and supposed sensitivity increase. You might want to figure out which camp you fall into before you purchase one.
Re: Drop Shot Rod
I honestly recomend the dobyns dx792sf great dropshot rod great especially if fishing deep.
Re: Drop Shot Rod
no mention of the xx drop shot? heard it was a helluva rod
Re: Drop Shot Rod
x2 I have a MB XX Stinger Shot also. It is legit. Wrestled in 5 lb Erie smallies and big drum too. I have an Ignis Type-R 2505 with #6 FC. Sensitive as all get out. Solid, solid setup.........for a spinning rig.Teal101 wrote:I have the stinger shot and use it with 1/16oz weight and a 4.5 roboworm all the time. Sometimes the alive shad or a crosstail shad.
