Is there such a thing as too many rods?

Post by Dustys60 » Wed Oct 05, 2016 11:44 am

Like the title says, is it possible? I have been really interested in buying a nrx 893 but i keep trying to figure out how it fits into my arsenal. I fish shallow water 99% of the time 3 to 5 feet. I have a champ 735 for frogging and a xx pp for frogging and pitching up to 3\8 oz. Also a xx amart flipper for thicker cover. I use a champ extreme 742 for Shakey heads and weight less senkos. A Diablo stage 2 , Loomis 783 e6x, and mojo bass crank bait rod for moving baits. I feel like I could sell the e6x and mojo rod and cover those with the Diablo and also sell the 742 cause the 893 would cover that. Does this seem like a reasonable plan or am I missing something. Or maybe keep them all and ad the 893 lol .All opinions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I think too many rigs can diminish focus on the water

Simply too much clutter

The correct answer is no. If you answer differently you're on the wrong forum.

Get the nrx 893 and try it out first. If you end up not using another rod because its too close to the 893 and like the 893 that much more you could sell the other rod later.

if you have "too many rods", just means you don't have enough reels!!

But you don't have a NRX 893, so you don't have too many rods. :big grin:

No. However, I'm a rod junkie. Everyone's different, but I think you can have too many reels. Rods don't require maintenance and new line, and I have several reels that lwork on numerous rods that allow me to transplant at will.

I like the idea of having a rod for every situation but space is a factor. I also go through "phases" of what I like to fish. Right now, I'm deciding whether to keep a Mag-BFS setup or go with another MH. Last year, I had a MH for jigs and a MH for T Rigs (not counting my deep crank rod) and it was great. I only rocked 1 MH this year and I constantly wanted to work sparse weeds with a T rig but my NRX 852 doesn't have the guts to do it but my jig on the MH would grab weeds.

Switching/tying lures all the sucks. Its nice having the convenience of just picking up the other rod. Using snaps is an option but then it grabs grass and cant really be used with a weight. I use snaps on moving bait rods only. My Steez Fle X Lite can do just about anything though. A versatile rod goes a long way.
