Yeah. I think I'm going to go with a whipsnake, but I just don't know if it is high-end enough for my tastes.DrTrevorkian wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 2:31 amI was just wondering how the 821 compares overall. The note above that somebody feels it’s a shorter 901 is what I would expect, just wanted confirmation.
And yeah, not for jerkbaits - definitely neds, finesse jigs, walleye drop shot. Well, maybe a size 6 x-rap, on a Canada fly-in, just because… ha!

I know this is a NRX discussion but check out the new Steez AGS ML. Its perfect for small jerkbaits and all finesse.

This will certainly be the worthy (better?) alternative to the NRX+ - def not the whipsnakeThunderblack1984 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 6:21 amI know this is a NRX discussion but check out the new Steez AGS ML. Its perfect for small jerkbaits and all finesse.

Better...maybe. I just think the steez line covers more bases in one rod and they are more versatile than NRX. G. Loomis models do focus on certain techniques well but they are one trick ponies in some models. 842S is a favorite though.

Broke a NRX 853c back in early May, was totally my fault. Did the xpeditor back then and finally got a replacement in the mail today, a NRX+ 853. New handle is comfortable, I like the hook keeper down by the butt of the rod and the wrapping is still mediocre. Guess I'll see how it feels next weekend.

At least they made most of them black so they don’t look as shoddy.tmd11111 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 2:12 pmBroke a NRX 853c back in early May, was totally my fault. Re: Confirmed new Nrx coming out !!
I ordered the 821 ned rig rod. I’ll put up a comparison post when I get the rod. I have quite a few NRX and NRX+ models to compare it to including 901, 822 DSR, and 872. I also had a 852 at one time.
Re: Confirmed new Nrx coming out !!
I am looking at the 852C JWR. I see it has a XF taper, but can someone tell me what the tip is like? I would be using it in bottom contact applications.

852 is indeed XF. Its a good rod for light bottom contact or weightless plastics. If you are planning on larger jigs you need to get a higher power. I don't think the 852 is rated for heavier baits. Might only be 3/8 or 5/8 oz....can't remember. Very good model for a lot of techniques though.

The 821 was just delivered. It’s almost if the 901 and 822 DSR had a baby. The top 20% of the rod’s blank is like the 822 DSR with a soft tip and the rod loads down into the stripper guides like a 901. I think it will be an awesome rod for throwing smaller floating Rapalas, creek fishing smallmouth, and anything that is 1/4 oz and less plastic.
I don’t own a Whipsnake or Landsat, but the taper looks like what I’ve seen in videos.

Re: Confirmed new Nrx coming out !!
It is rated to 3/8, but that doesn’t bother me. I have a 853 and a 893 as well as many other MH 3 power rods from other brands. I also have a number of ML 1 power rods but only a few in M 2 power. I find rods with XF tapers work well at the upper end of the rating if the tip isn’t too soft.Thunderblack1984 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 6:29 am852 is indeed XF. That’s why I asked about it.
Re: Confirmed new Nrx coming out !!
What does make a rod more "high end"? Is it price or appearances? Maybe it's just me but the whipsnake looks like a much higher end rod to the eyeballs than any NRX. I haven't held a spinning NRX or any of the new NRX but I did hold a few casting rods a number of years back and was not happy with the look and feel in hand. I'm sure they fish amazing but there was nothing "high end" on them from my perspective other than the price. High performance perhaps. I didnt fish them so I have to take everyone's world on that one.DrTrevorkian wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 3:00 pmHa! I know that feeling, too! They fish really well due to their sensitivity and tapers.LowRange wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 7:26 amWhat does make a rod more "high end"? Is it price or appearances?
