Please do...I’m sure you’re excited. I have the NRX 822S Shakeyhead and the GLX 820S Maglite rods. I’m not sure if I want to get the 822S NRR or the 901S next... love to hear your thoughts on the Ned Rig Rod.

Hey guys, can anybody confirm if the torzite guides on the spinning models still make extreme clicking noises when being used? My casting models never did this but almost all conquest and nrx spinning models did and it drove me nuts. Mostly when rod was used for jigging.
As far as I know, Loomis still using SIC rings, not Torzite on the NRX+. All the advertisements and new intros on YouTube show SIC and of course Recoil guides...

10-4. Its the titanium guides then. Whatever was on the previous gen are the ones I have issues with. Never had issues with any other models but the nrx and one conquest.

Ok. I can give a brief assessment. I got my new NRX+ 873CRR last night. I took it out to a local community dock for a little testing. It was paired with an Antares and spooled up with Hitena 43lb Supercast braid. Here are my initial observations:

Fit and Finish: Better than the old NRX. The new design is classy, conservative design. The guide wraps are better, but still not perfect. There is only a little blue for those who didn't care for the baby blue threads. The cork is much better (like a Conquest). It is high grade cork that is beautiful and soft.

Comfort: I wasn't thrilled with the old reel seat because the exposed reel seat was a bit uncomfortable. The new reel seat is much more comfortable. It is similar to what it found on the Conquest.

Balance: Better. It balances right in front of the fore grip with an Antares or Metanium MGL B. The rod weighs 4.2 ounces.

Sensitivity: Insanely sensitive, but so was my old 873CRR. When you get to that level, I honest can't tell any difference.

Cast-ability: Very good. I can't do a side by side comparison with the old rod, but I was throwing a 1/2 Spotsticker casting jig a long ways. Even though it has Spiral X, I would say the difference in casting distance will not be significant. The recoil guides don't bother me. I tie a FG knot and the braid was not noisy coming through the guides.

Fishability: I was only able to fish for 15-20 minutes, but did catch a couple of angry 2-3 lbs spots. The rod was responsive on the hook set and drove the hooks home easily. I think the Spiral X technology makes for a fun fight and will probably translate into a few less lost fish.

Dislikes: I don't like the placement of the hook keeper. It isn't a deal breaker, but I don't understand the placement.

Overall, I am extremely pleased. My next purchase will be a 872s.

So are the NRX rods discontinued then?

The NRX are no longer on Loomis website. Only the + models. There are certainly NRX available, albeit limited, so if you’re looking for a specific model, it might become difficult to obtain. Noticed a “sale” on some website where there is a small discount. Fat chance I’ll buy one after being told there would be no “deals” when they got their big shipment a couple of months ago. :^o

I'm under the impression that authorized retailers discontinued them for good and don't offer them anymore. Other retailers will continue to sell off their old stock. I know of one case where an old NRX broke under warranty and the owner is getting the NRX+ version of that model when it's available.

I wouldn't expect major price reductions yet because the new models are more expensive than the old ones, and there's probably a decent number of anglers who will buy the old models at a "discount".

How does the power of the nrx+ 873 compare to the old nrx 873?

It seems about the same, but I have had a chance to fish with it much. Only about 15 minutes. I plan to fish with it this weekend.

Finally got a chance to take my 852C out fishing today. Caught 3 largies on it, two on tubes and one of a 1/0 weedless underspin. My verdict isn't going to surprise anybody: it's a damn fine rod that's really sensitive. Could feel every strand of grass I was fishing through, the 2nd tube fish ticked it as distinctly and satisfyingly as a good jig bite. Paired with a Aldebaran 50 MGL; it won't win any casting competitions, but it does the job well enough.

Freelancer27 and I are planning on taking this rod and the old 852C out for a direct comparison trip. Going by today's solo trip, I'll be surprised if we find much difference. The rod is super sensitive, but I don't think it'll be reveal itself as being more sensitive than the old rod. If you already have an NRX model I don't expect any benefits from upgrading to a NRX+.
