Thanks for all the information and suggestions, that'll go a long way to finding a super budget, bank beater stick. I'm going to order a couple to try as well and keep you posted.

I've been fishing the $36 L rod. It's OK. I feel it isn't very crisp and doesn't transfer casting motion into casting distance very well. Sort of feels like a poor spring but it loads just fine. I can get good distance out of a 1/16 Bitsy Bug and 2.5 inch paddle tail. Sensitivitity is basically non existant but all I have done is swim baits through weeds. I have a $33 Obei brand ML on the way that is rated one gram higher on the low end to see how that compares. Ideally I want to spend a bit more but can't find any decent $50 ML rods. They are all either $100 or $30.

i'm still looking for a bfs rod. i tried really hard to get a major craft, but never could make the purchase happen. looks like they finally got their usa website lined out, but they are out of stock on everything i was interested in.

i've been checking ali out, but really don't have a clue on what brands are good, and which ones to avoid. i'm also uneducated on which rods are trout rods and which are bfs.

not sure why this is as difficult as it is lol

The Kuying stuff is really good but their BFS rods are Majorcraft money. If you just want to try out an UL/L BFS you can get the Seaknight Falcon for around $60 otherwise a Majorcraft Benkei is an excellent choice.

I got an Obei Street Bass ML in. It's a 3PC rod in between a M and ML. Its very similar to the LIghtning Rod 66M in that it has a very soft tip. The Street Bass tip is just a little more stiff and slower than the LR but it still feels like a M XF. The LR's tip is so soft and fast that it can struggle to cast smoothly some times. This is thing has hook setting power for days and a fast, soft tip paired to smooth casting. Been tossing a BPS soft jerkbait on it so far. That weighs in between 1/4 and 3/8 oz from what I can tell. Curious to see how it handles a true 1/4 oz. Unsure on sensitivity yet. I hope it is as sensitive as my Obei Elf.

i tried the ul/l powered sea knight falcon, and it didn't make it thru the 1st fish. snapped at the joint on the l powered top section. i was using an 1/8oz crappie jig with 4# mono.

i've got a 6'4 l daiwa blazon on order from asian portal. i ordered it for my wife, i want the 6'8 version for me. hopefully no problems with it.

That sucks. I hope them refund your money or otherwise give you some sort of credit.

i just got pissed and slung it in the lake

the positive part of the day was finding out the shallow spool i got for a revo alx will cast 1/8oz extremely well. i put it on a ml carbonlite and continued on. i added more weights to the alx side plate, and it seemed to help a little. it's still not able to pitch & cast though. you have to set up for one or the other.
