Honestly, I've only used it a couple of times. I've been mostly chasing brown trout in rivers and salmon fishing on Lake Michigan. So far, I've only fished it with 3.5" tubes. Very pleased with it's sensitivity, but I'm still getting used to the smaller guides. I'm not able to use my preferred braid with a fluorocarbon leader on it, but that's not a deal breaker. It balances very nicely with a PX68.goldrod wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 11:40 pmHow are you liking the Spec-F?Schlag wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 11:56 amIt's going to be lower in power than the NRX 802C, and I believe the 1610L would be too weak to handle a 3/16 jig or a normal 3.5"sized tube. The rod can handle a Molix Nano jig or a keitech guard spin jig.
Last year, I lost my dedicated tube rod to the river. It was a Dobyns Champion Extreme 702c, and I just replaced it today with a slightly used Steez Harrier F-Spec. I'm hoping it acts similar to an NRX 852c.

Ha! I know the feeling.
I tie just about everything to the rod in its weight range. So much fun catching topwater fish with a light rod.
Additionally, I use braid with a leader and haven't had issues with the guides, fwiw.

I dont know what it is but I reached out to a supplier about it and because of the time differences got a message late and over looked it.. they are an order first shop.. but they are telling me just what I read on here.. trigger finger itchy.. lol

What's the absolute low end of this rod? I've gotten out with it twice for winter smallmouth throwing 8.47g and 8.78g total weight rigs and it feels right in the sweet spot. I'm curious how low you guys are going. I'd start throwing smaller stuff but in my two short outings they are all over baits weighing in in that 8.5g range.

Was your Dobyns Champion Extreme 702c similar to the 852 JWR, or a little less power?Schlag wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 11:56 amIt's going to be lower in power than the NRX 802C, and I believe the 1610L would be too weak to handle a 3/16 jig or a normal 3.5"sized tube. From memory, 852 JWR was slightly more powerful. Maybe a half power stronger. Never owned that model, but fished with one all day on a guided river trip on the Susky.montey wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 11:25 pmWas your Dobyns Champion Extreme 702c similar to the 852 JWR, or a little less power?Schlag wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 11:56 amIt's going to be lower in power than the NRX 802C, and I believe the 1610L would be too weak to handle a 3/16 jig or a normal 3.5" sized tube. I mainly use the Ultima 1610L (Ex-Fast) with thin 2.75" tube w/ 1/8 oz sled, 3/32 to 1/8 oz football Ned, or a 1/8 oz jig. I recently fished it with a 4.5 gram Evergreen Cover Creeper Jig w/ a TRD Ticklerz as a trailer, and had no issues sticking smallmouth. That jig has a small/thin hook.
For something heavier, I use the Daiwa 610ML+ Shallow Cover Finesse (fast), Daiwa Harrier F-Spec (Ex-Fast), or Poison Ultima 1611ML+ (Reg). I listed it from lighter to heavier power. The slower actions are more versatile and the Ex-Fast are dedicated bottom fishing. I really like the that I can fish braid with a leader better on the Jackall/Shimano rods.
Good luck shopping for a new rod!
