Shimano Monocoque Handle

Post by rtb83 » Fri Jul 16, 2021 8:38 am

Watching BASS live it sure looks like Bernie Shultz is using a new model Expride that has Shimano's monocoque handle. If that is what he's using, could we see by next year all of Shimano's higher end rods using that handle design. I've never handled one and am not sure exactly what the upside would be except for maybe increased sensitivity. I have an Edge Rods silver widow with the carbon handle and I always feel like I'm going to loose the rod every time I cast.

If it is a new model Expride, then looks like shimano went with the Conquest style reel seat. I guess that style seat is more user friendly for those who like to grip the rod above the reel foot.
Personally i would like to see a cork Zodias style reel seat on the spinning rod.
Looks like they had some sort of white cover over the rod details on the blank.
I do hope they add more models to the spinning rod lineup.

Looks like the next Expride indeed. Love the handle changes.

The handle has been the only reason I’ve never added an Expride spin as I’m one of those that prefer to be above the stem with fingers around the blank (conquest, new nrx). I’ll be curious of offered lengths and release date.

I'm the opposite. I hold the spinning rod with the reel foot between my middle and ring finger.
I'm not too pleased with this new design. We'll see how they feel. I may just have to keep my current exprides, which I have quite a few of.
I'll probably pick up the several of the new Adrena models in both spinning and casting.

I'm the same, that handle design either means I have to change my preferred grip to 3 or even 4 fingers in front of the reel stem, or fish as I prefer but with the heel of my hand falling off the back of the grip. I think St Croix have tried to make a compromise with the Victory spinning rods with an extended rear and front grip. For my home built rods I like an American tackle Aero reel seat and no foregrip.

Guys that hold a spin with the stem between their fingers have it easy. There are very few (most notably the ridiculous down locking nut renditions) that I find comfortable that allow for heel of the hand to rest where the handle hits the blank with fingers extended on the blank. Whatever works.

The reduced weight of the Monocoque handle has a reduce momentum of rod handle at the end of your cast. Those light wrist flick casting motions become even more efficient.

I like the change in design. Not seeing much about when these release. Anyone have a clue? Nothing at Icast

Doesn't look like I'd be able to get me pointer finger on the blank the way I hold.
