I'm using the same rod for both Chatterbaits and Spinnerbaits, works well for larger Squarebill's also.
Which rod is that? The Javelin?

Here's the thread that inspired lots of folks to get one of these unique Evergreen rods for more background.

Please have a great day!

Is there anyone that can share actual first hand experience with the evergreen dire wolf rod? I’d like to get a sense of the sweet spot (3/8 - 3oz is a very wide lure rating), whether it can actually throw the whole range, and what techniques you feel the taper is best suited for.

According to the EG website the GT-R has a shorter handle and was made for treble hook baits and accurate short casts and the RS has a longer handle meant for longer casting and single hook baits. Are you guys finding this to be the case?

I'll post up a review when I put time on the rod. I will say that their build quality is just as good as any custom rod builder out there.

The MH Valkaryie handles 1/2 spinnerbaits fine. The tip maybe loads a tad more than what I am used to but it fishes and casts them beautifully. Not sure what issue I had with the 1/2 oz chatterbait. I probably wasn't used to that soft tip is all.

There's a badass Evergreen Heracles EG Swimming for sale on BBC. It's a great rod for lots of moving techs, and even Topwaters with braid+leader.

With copoly/fluoro with 3/8-3/4 chatters, I like the LWL Super Diablo II.

For long casts with braid + leader over grass, and 3/8 - 1/2 chatters and needing a high tip angle, I really like my Gen I Phenix Ultra MBX 707MH.

I'm another big fan of the Valkyrie 71MH as a world class 1/2 oz spinner bait and chatter bait rod. As I've written before, I'm not generally a glass blended rod fan, but this one is something special.

in the P5 series, the Blade is an excellent choice for 1/2 oz spinner baits and chatter baits. I found the Madbull more powerful than what I prefer for those baits except in really heavy cover situations.

That soft tip helps pop baits off grass without moving it too far forward. Great action.

Have i walked back being dead wrong about the MH Valkaryie not being able to handle 1/2 oz chatterbaits enough yet? I have a question to add to this thread.

What about the St Croix Rippin Chatter tapers? How do those stack up? I want a 2nd moving bait stick to pair to a Zillon PE Special with stock or IP68 spool and want something to compliment the MH Valkaryie. The rippin chatter is also a glass stick but more moderate making it maybe more crankbait friendly? Something to throw Fritside Biggins while the Valkaryie has a chatter tied on or be my up to DT10 stick. At the same there is the Flip Chat Crank which is a mod fast H graphite stick rated at the same 3/8 to 1 oz of of the Valkaryie but should be more suited to all around use and maybe rip 1/2 oz chatters out of grass better with flouro? The soft tip of the Valkaryie on long casts can struggle a little bit rippign baits out of grass at distance but braid would that problem. This route would also force the MH Valkaryie into a chatterbait and crank role.

Looking to bring two sticks out with chatters tied on in a hot bite but also have one with a chatterbait and the other with a 3/8+ oz squarebill, lipless, mid crank, swim jig, spinnerbait or gilly 110-130. I've got mag heavy mod fast covered with a Hyuga 72H and the Flip Chat Crank slotting in right below feels right. At the same time a crankbait and cbatterbait stick would be super useful even if it has a lot of overlap between the MH Valkaryie.

Anyone fish a St Croix Rippin Chatter taper in any line?

hands down for me..expride 72 mh glass is the best chatterbait rod...its the only thing i have tied on to it all the time..ive tried various dobyns, megabass and zodias rods but none do it like the expride for me....the only con i have about it is that it tends to feel a bit too soft once i start using 3/4 w trailer...1/2 oz and 3/8ths no issues....

This past weekend, I used a custom Otterods MHX 907 CB blend/Z2020H with 40lb braid + 4' of 17lb fluoro leader, and in my hands it was absolutely awesome. I landed my PB Tennessee largie (19.25", @ 4 3/4 on my Boga) by waking/ripping a 1/2 oz homemade chatter + 3.8' Fat Impact in shallow water over rock shelves and chunk rock,.

This same combo also handled the current full sized Vixen, as well as a 1 oz Xcalibur XR100 with aplomb.

Dobyns champion 706cb, it’s got the power to move strong fish, enough tip to get reluctant biters, and decent sensitivity too. No expensive rod needed for this technique, just a rod with your preferred taper.

I agree. I've caught bass to 8lbs on a $70 rod:

I use the 7'4" crankbait model.
It handles chatterbaits with trailers and spinnerbaits to 1/2oz, and gets them out of thick grass with no problems.
I've been using them for several years, and no breakage. Also no complaints. :D
