Edge Silver Widow 736 SRJ vs. NRX+ 893

Post by J Hinds » Wed May 18, 2022 9:34 am

Does anyone have experience with both rods that can offer a comparison?

Thank you!

I own the 736 SJR silver widow and have handled the 893 but have never fished it. What kind of comparison are you looking for?

I suppose I am looking to compare: (1) power, (2) taper, (3) sensitivity, and (4) weight. Thanks for the response!

I can do my best to answer your questions on the silver widow.

-Power, I would rate the 736 as a 1/2 power stronger than the 893. The tip of the 736 is fairly soft and quick but transitions into a solid backbone. The 736 is a "heavy" but i would call it a MH+.

-Taper, the 736 would fall between a fast and XF, as in its faster than most "fast" tapers I use. Similar to how the new st croix victory line heavy xf taper bends. It's much quicker than the NFC MBR blanks.

-Sensitivity: I love the x-ray blank and while I've not fished the new nrx+ line I can't see as I'm giving up anything in sensitivity with the x-ray. I use only flouro on the rod for bottom contact and it's easy to pick apart bottom composition and bites are electric.

-Weight: The 736 is pretty stout at 5.6oz total weight. Balance point it 2" in front of the reel seat with no reel on it so it feels like a feather in hand. Rear handle length on the 736 is 11" FYI.
