Jig and Swimbait Rod

Post by jprice92 » Fri May 27, 2022 1:22 pm

I'm looking for suggestions on a 1/2-3/4 ounce jig rod that is very sensitive but one that can also throw swimbaits like a 6 inch magdraft. I have the tequila baccarac and its not as sensitive as I'd like but it handles those smaller swimbaits great. Price is not an issue just looking for some options.

The shimano expride 7’3” xh does all that and more with aplomb.

I don't have any experience with them, but perhaps an Xray blank in a 6 power.

I’ve been considering the conquest 905, also been considering the Evergreen Super stallion and the Evergreen Black Rose. Anyone have any more feedback on these rods? I’ve read the tt reviews on them.

You may look at either the Steez AGS 72H Power Pitch or the 74XH Heavy Cover Special. Both rods are impressive in terms of both sensitivity and versatility. I like 1/2 oz jigs better on the 72H but a 6" Magdraft I like better on the 74XH. Both rods will absolutely get this job done and done well. I also own the Tequila for reference.

Thanks man I’ll look into those, I’d rather have it better at jigs than swimbaits.

You're welcome! The 72H I'd take as an overall 3/8 to 3/4 oz jig rod. The 74XH excels in heavier cover, or with 3/4 oz FB jigs, 1 oz jigs, and light punching. Both rods are outstanding frog rods as well, and have enough flex to the blank for the added versatility to toss some swim bait type stuff.
