Loomis 904c

Post by Rodster14 » Sun Jun 19, 2022 5:09 am

I currently have an Expride 7’2 MH as my “do it all rod”. T-rigs, underspins, scroungers, wobble heads, dark sleepers, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, etc. I use a NRX+ 873CRR as my jig rod. I am considering getting a NRX+904c to replace this rod. I know it’s not ideal for some of these techniques, but would it be better than what I have now?

I don’t have a 904c, but if you’re looking for a 3/4 oz and up football jig or swing head rod, take a look at the 905c Conquest. Super stout but has a heavyish top third to the blank.

Sounds like you need what I keep annoying Loomis to make, 873 & 874 MBR’s. I don’t have the NRX+ 904 but do have the Conquest 904, plus the NRX+ & Conquest 844’s. I would reach for the 844’s before I’d reach for the 904 in the techniques you posted other than underspins. I have an 1/4oz Flashy swimmer with a 4” Spark shad tied on my 904 now. It excels with 1/2oz spinnerbaits but 4 power MBR’s have cost me very large (8-10lb) fish with chatterbaits. For the techniques you listed a 903 NRX+ Might be perfect.

873 MBR… I would buy one. I love my 873 CRR. I ended up trading the 904c. For now, I am going to use my Expride B 7’2 as my do it all rod.

I’ve got the CNQ 844 and CNQ 905. The 905 doesn’t fish like a heavy power rod, but it’s stout. What a great tip. The 844 prolly does 95% of what I need to do for those presentations.

But having the 905 is nice when I wanna chuck a 1oz jig or 1.5 - 2oz swim bait. 😀

An 873 MBR would be nice…

I bet Loomis would be absolutely shocked how many of us would buy an 873 MBR. I don’t get their resistance to making one. All the Shimano lines have 7, 7-2 or 7-3 and 7-6MH’s. As does about every company out there.

i just picked up an nrx plus 904c this summer and it is great do it all rod...i've thrown everything from keitech swimbaits/frogs, spinnerbait, trigs,,jig, chatterbait and even 1.5 square bill..it excels at bottom contact baits like an nrx should but can handle moving baits just as well....it has replaced my megabass javelin as the only rod i'd bring if i could only bring one rod...mbr taper is fantastic and the full length handle is perfect for all day long usage...
