What's your favorite rod for cranking mid-depth crankbaits (eg 3xd-5xd)

Post by clemsondds » Thu Jun 30, 2022 8:36 pm

I love throwing crankbaits. Picked up a megabass z-crank elseil and I love it. But it's sweet spot seems to be the megabass z1 and z2 cranks (eg 1/4-3/8oz). I also have the megabass launcher but during the summer, I have a 6xd-10xd on. So looking for something in between...maybe madbull or imx 906cbr. Would love to hear what you would do. thanks

Old school for me. Steez Fle-X-Lite 7ft M. Such a butter smooth, lightweight and versatile rod

I’ve been using the Daiwa Tatula Elite Tak Signature 7’ with O.S.P., EG, Lucky Craft and a few others.

Cool! Thanks for the input! Anyone use a imx pro 906cbr? I’ve heard good things about them but have never used an imx. Thanks

I have the 903 and 864 imx cbr's and I'm a big fan of this line. I want to add the 906/866, and those are what I'd look at for your purposes.

I have the 7-3M Majorcraft Nanoace worm/jig rod and it works excellent with a 3XD, while the 5XD maxes it out. It's much more moderate than the moniker implies and keeps fish pinned. It also works great for 3/8 chatterbaits + superfluke trailer. I'd think that the 7-5MH would work slightly better at the upper end, but this one has served me well enough that I haven't looked for a replacement.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

I have to amend my previous answer. I’m using a Daiwa Steez Machinegun Cast I.

Specifics:
Rod Length: 1.98m
Number of Pieces: 1 and Grip
Folded Length: 170cm
Rod Weight: 99g
Rod Power: M
Action/Taper: RF
Lure Weight: 3/16-3/4oz
Line Weight: 8-16lb

The Tak 7’ is for O-S-P Blitz EX-DR

St Croix Legend Tournament Glass 7'4" MH

Love it.

3xd might be a bit light though.

I’m interested in this thread. The St Croix Avid 7’med heavy moderate crank bait rod has been great for the past 15 years or so. Our 6 month old Labrador retriever jumped on it and snapped it in half. Looking for a replacement hopefully this topic will continue thanks.
