No, they're graphite rods.doomtrprz71 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 8:36 pmLooks like those old rods were fiberglass, you may be better off getting an iconoglass blank from NFC and having it cut down.

Yeah, I still have three of those Excalibur poppers with Zell's name on it. I also have a few Excalibur (Bomber) Long A with KVD signature.SteveSchmelzle wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 9:33 amHis line of topwater excalibur series lures in the 90's were second to none (and that includes today). His Rebel PopR Zell Rowland series has caught me more bass than any other lure or technique.

The rods you adore so are graphite blended with fiberglass.MK49 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 1:20 pmNo, they're graphite rods.doomtrprz71 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 8:36 pmLooks like those old rods were fiberglass, you may be better off getting an iconoglass blank from NFC and having it cut down.

Interesting. I didn't know that. You're welcome, the only reason I found out is from an old thread on here. You may like one of the NFC neo blanks cut down to 6.3, I have one cut down to 7.3 that I fish Corky's on and it's definitely a feel you wouldn't get from an xf graphite rod.MK49 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 3:40 pmInteresting. What are y’all using as your buzzbait rod? I assume most don’t have a dedicated buzzbait rod so curious what technique shares the same rod requirements.

Buzzbait rods would require more power and the "twitchiness" of the tip isn't as important.clemsondds wrote: ↑Sun Aug 28, 2022 6:50 amWhat are y’all using as your buzzbait rod? I assume most don’t have a dedicated buzzbait rod so curious what technique shares the same rod requirements.
People seem to use mono or braid for buzzbaits. If using mono, I like a MH fast rod. For braid, I will use something with a little more give or, just make sure I am slower on the hookset to make sure the fish can grab the bait.

I ended up buying the new Impulse Zell Roland Topwater rod, another attempt to replace my 25 years old Daiwa. I had never heard of Impulse, but I took a chance, because I liked my old All Star Zell Roland Topwater Rod. Used it for a few times, and so far, I like it. It's a little stiffer than the old Daiwa and the All Star, but it's working fine for me. The Daiwa has a little slower taper, but the new rod has the similar taper to the All Star Zell Roland, except the new one is a little stiffer.
